Dear Hardy Families,

It is hard to believe October is about to be here, and we are eight weeks into the school year. Our Owls were buzzing with excitement at this afternoon’s Jog-a-Thon kickoff assembly!

Your student is bringing home a lanyard today with registration instructions. Please help them register tonight and assist them in reaching out to get flat-rate or per-lap pledges! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the dollars raised go right back into classrooms and student experiences.

Fun incentives are back! Any student who raises a minimum of $250 will be entered to win Principal for the Day. If we hit our schoolwide goal, I will be slimed, along with a few brave staff members, next Friday. Register tonight, and help us make this our best Jog-a-Thon yet!

I hope to see you at Family Friday this Friday! Please take the short survey below to tell us which topics you want for the principal’s chat.

Have a wonderful week!

With gratitude,

Mrs. Aragon

Get ready, Hardy Owls, our Jog-a-Thon officially begins on Monday, Sep 29!

🏃 Jog-a-Thon has begun!

The Apex Jog-a-Thon is officially underway! Today’s pep rally kicked off Hardy’s biggest fundraiser of the year! FOr the next two weeks, the Apex team will be on campus leading leadership lessons, building school spirit, and getting everyone excited for the big run on Wednesday, Oct 8. Here’s what to know:

  • Your child will bring home a VIP Badge today or tomorrow with a unique access code for myapexevent.com. This is their personal pledge page.

  • Sponsors can give a flat donation or pledge “per lap”. (Students usually run ~36 laps, capped at 36).

  • The easiest way to help? Share your child’s page with grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends, colleagues, or local businesses– many small pledges add up fast!

  • Every child participates in the run and classroom spirit rewards, no fundraising required to join in on the fun.

Let’s hit our $35,000 goal together, Owls! 🦉♥️

Welcoming Ms. Lizzie Mercurio, our new K/1 combo teacher

We are excited to introduce our newest Hardy teacher, Miss Lizzie Mercurio. She will be teaching our K/1 combo class. Please read her bio below:

Hello, my name is Miss Mercurio. I recently moved from Gig Harbor, Washington, to San Diego this past August. Living in San Diego has always been a dream of mine, and I am so grateful that I was able to make it happen.

I have been a teacher for four years, with the past two years spent teaching first grade. I also earned a Master’s in Educational Technology and Instructional Design for K–12 and Adult Learning. I am a proud graduate of Washington State University — go Cougs!

I am extremely excited and grateful to join the Hardy Elementary family, and I cannot wait to meet my students, families, and be a part of the wonderful staff at Hardy very soon. Go Owls!

Families will receive letters on Friday, October 3, outlining any changes to their child's classroom. Our new classrooms will begin on Monday, October 6. These decisions were made thoughtfully with student needs and balanced classrooms in mind. We recognize that moving eight weeks into the school year can be challenging, and we will do everything in our power to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition. Thank you for trusting us.

Our new structure is as follows:

Kindergarten: Mrs. Rawlings with Mr. Amador, Mrs. Youngblood, and the K/1 combo with Miss Mercurio.
First grade: Mrs. Bear, Mr. Gray, and the K/1 combo with Miss Mercurio.
Second grade: Ms. Modrusan and Mr. Lerma.

Thank you for your partnership and support.

Urgent LCFF Update: We’re at 90.91%—help us close the gap!

PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR LCFF SURVEY TO ENSURE HARDY IS PROPERLY FUNDED

  • Online via the unique link emailed to you from survey@sandiegounified.org via SurveyMonkey
  • In-person, by printing out and returning the paper form HERE to your child’s school

Take Action – Review the Family Resource Guide in Parent Portal

San Diego Unified has released the 2025-26 Family Resource Guide (formerly Facts for Parents). This important guide contains helpful resources for the school year, updates on district policies, and details about student rights and responsibilities. It also includes information about after-school programs, universal meals, and how student work may be shared or celebrated publicly.

What Families Need to Do:

  • Log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to review the Family Resource Guide.
  • Complete the one-question confirmation form inside the Parent Portal to confirm you have received the guide.
  • Fill out the Universal Form (also included in the Parent Portal) to update permissions for media release, technology use, and restorative discipline acknowledgement.
  • Please review the document and complete the forms by Friday, December 19, 2025.

Why this matters: Completing these required forms ensures your child can fully participate in classroom and school activities, including media coverage or opportunities for their work to be showcased.

If you need help accessing Parent Portal or setting up an account, visit the Parent Portal resource webpage or contact your school office for support.

You can also check out these videos for help completing the forms.
