Baker 1st Grade Weekly Update
October 2nd, 2026
Classroom Happenings
Happy Friday!
We had a busy week in 1st Grade learning and growing! Please see below for what we practiced this week:
Phonics- Double Consonants
Reading- Fiction Story Elements / Retelling
Social Studies- City, State, Country
Math- Comparing Numbers
Science- Parts of a whole / Systems
As a reminder:
The Guided Reading folder contains a Sight Words Practice Sheet, as well as a reader for your student to read and practice at home. This book should be a book your child can read with you without frustration. Please reach out to your child's teacher with any questions!
On a weekly basis, your child will RETURN the folder on MONDAYS and will bring it home on TUESDAYS with a new book. Thank you for your help in this!
As a special note, please have students to leave all toys, squishies, Pokemon cards, etc... at home. Not only does it cause a distraction, these special things may get lost or broken. Thank you for your help in this!
Please see the section below for a few reminders!
Reminders:
The green take home folder contains optional monthly homework, as well as a sight word practice sheet and a phonics take home sheet. The phonics sheet directly aligns with our in class phonics instruction, and gives you practical ways to support at home. This folder also serves as a communication tool between you and your child's teacher- any notes or comments on behavior that needs addressed will be in this folder. A smiley face or stamp means it was a great day!
If possible, please send in a pair of over the ear headphones with your child to use during our Chromebook time this year. These headphones will stay at school and will be returned at the end of the school year. This will ensure that we can use our Chromebooks for learning activities. Thank you!
We love celebrating birthdays in 1st grade but we do have a few reminders! We cannot allow birthday treats to be given out during class. If you would like to send something with your student it needs to be something store bought and sealed that they can send home with the class at the end of the day (examples include goldfish packs, fruit snacks or little goody bags). Thank you for your support!

Mass Screening Date
Dear Baker Families,
To support our students' health and success, Baker Elementary will be conducting state-mandated health screenings during the school day on October 7, 2026. These routine checks help us identify potential vision, hearing, or health concerns early so every child can thrive in the classroom!
Screening Schedule by Grade Level:
1st, 3rd, & 5th Grade: Vision, Hearing, and Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes
Kindergarten & Students New to the District (2nd & 4th Grade): Vision and Hearing
A Quick Reminder for Parents: If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please make sure they wear or bring them to school on screening day so we can get the most accurate results.
If any screenings indicate that a child might need further evaluation, Nurse Wilson will follow up directly with families by sending a referral letter home.
Nurse Wilson is always here to partner with you in keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the clinic if you have any questions!
The Baker Library Storybook Pumpkin Patch IS OPEN!
Your child is invited to plant a pumpkin in our pumpkin patch during the month of October. This is an optional activity and should be done at home. Your child can choose a character from the book and can transform it into that character. Please use artificial pumpkins for this project! You may bring in a copy of the book that matches your pumpkin for the display if you wish!
WHEN: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5th, 2026 THROUGH FRIDAY OCTOBER 30th, 2026
