April Prayer – The Virtue of Love

Loving God,

As we enter the month of April, we turn our hearts toward the virtue of Love—the greatest commandment You have given us. You sent Your Son, Jesus, to show us what true love looks like: a love that gives, a love that sacrifices, a love that sees the dignity and goodness in every person.

Help us grow into loving people who want the best for others, who are willing to make small and meaningful sacrifices so that those around us may have greater peace, comfort, joy, and friendship. Remind us that we are all lovable and created in Your image. Strengthen our hearts so that we may learn from the heroic examples of the saints, and inspire us to pray for others with sincerity and compassion.

Lord, guide us to live as Your faithful disciples. May we reflect the qualities of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations by becoming discerning believers who celebrate Your presence, caring family members attentive to the needs of others, and responsible citizens who promote peace and uphold the sacredness of every human life.

Open our eyes so we may see others the way You see them. Open our ears so we may listen with kindness. Open our hearts so we may act with generosity.

Let our school community be filled with respect, compassion, and love—love that is patient, love that is gentle, love that is faithful, and love that brings us closer to You.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

April Virtue: Love

'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31)

God wants us to serve and to see the goodness in everyone we meet.

Love is not just an emotion it is also a decision. Love involves a deliberate choice to give and to serve others even though the service may go unnoticed and unappreciated.

From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a loving person...

  • Relates to family intimacy and sexuality as God-given gifts, to be used as the creator intended

  • Relates to family members in a loving, compassionate and respectful manner especially when the other seems 'unlovable'

  • Respects the rights, responsibilities and contributions of self and others

World Austism Day

Since the United Nations General Assembly designated 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) in 2007, the UN has worked to promote the full realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic individuals, ensuring their equal participation in society. Over the years, significant progress has been made, driven in large part by autistic advocates who have worked tirelessly to bring the lived experiences of autistic individuals to the forefront of global discussions.

The 2026 observance of World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), held under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” highlights and affirms the dignity and worth of all autistic people as part of our shared human future.

School‑Wide Kiss & Ride and Parking Safety Reminders

As a school community, the safety of our students must always come first. Recently, we have observed an increase in unsafe parking lot practices during both morning drop‑off and afternoon pick‑up. Although many families follow the procedures consistently—thank you—there are still situations occurring that put children and others at risk.

To ensure the safety of every student, please review and follow the expectations below:

Parking Lot & Kiss & Ride Reminders

  • Do not park along the south side of the church at any time. This area is not designated for parking or stopping and parking is meant for church personnel and patrons. Cars parking or stopping in this area force children to cross active drive-thru lanes, creating extremely unsafe condition including blocking the passage of school buses for drop-off and/or pick-up of bus students.
  • Kiss & Ride is for quick drop‑offs/pick-ups only. Drivers must remain in their vehicles and move forward promptly. Your child should be ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at the Kiss & Ride area.
  • Use designated parking spots on the NORTH side of the church only: From here you can safely walk your child to the school or pick them up at dismissal.
  • Never stop to drop off children in drive‑through lanes that are parallel to the south side of the church. Blocking traffic contributes to unsafe congestion and prevents staff from supervising effectively.
  • Follow all staff guidance. Our staff members are outside to support safety—not to inconvenience anyone. Please treat them with respect and follow their directions immediately.

We understand that mornings and afternoons can be busy and rushed. However, no one’s schedule or convenience can outweigh the need to keep every child safe. Small individual choices can have significant consequences when traffic is involved.

Working Together for Student Safety

As a community, we each play an essential role in modelling responsibility and care. We ask all families to recommit to following the parking lot procedures every single day. When all parents cooperate, our routines run smoothly and safely for everyone.

Our Catholic School Council will also be discussing possible additional strategies at the next meeting. If you have suggestions or ideas, please feel free to reach out to our council co‑chairs, Mrs. Ferreira and Mrs. MacInnis.

Thank you for your continued partnership, and for doing your part to help keep our students safe.

Change in weather

At this time we would like to remind all students to dress appropriately for the season by wearing the proper spring attire which should include hats, coats and boots. When students are dressed properly for the changing conditions, they can go outside and enjoy some fresh air and activity in comfort.

We Share the Air-Scent Free School

We would like to inform you that our school continues to participate in “We Share the Air”, a scent sensitivity awareness campaign. There are students and staff attending this school who suffer from potentially life-threatening asthmatic conditions triggered by air pollutants. Exposure even to minimal odours may cause potentially life-threatening reactions. Very common severe chemical triggers are perfume, cologne, scented products and personal care products (such as hairspray and body spray). These products may cause severe reactions for students. The safety and well-being of all our students is a priority. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, please refrain from wearing scented personal products complying with our Scent Free Zone campaign at school and all school events. Please ensure that all caregivers are also aware of this campaign. If you have any questions, please talk to your child’s teacher or the school staff. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all students.

Dress Code

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) remains committed to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and can achieve success. Dress codes and school uniforms are designed to support diversity, accessibility, safety, and the dignity of all students.

On January 28, 2025, the Board of Trustees approved updates to Policy P-2006 Dress Code and School Uniform. As part of these changes, dress code expectations now require that students ensure the area from the top of the shoulders to mid-thigh is covered.

Additionally, the DPCDSB dress code continues to prohibit any clothing with messages that contain or depict offensive or inappropriate content. Students are not permitted to wear attire that promotes:

• Hate

• Discrimination

• Illegal activity

• Profanity

• Violence

• Political language

• Threats to health and safety

• Any content that violates the Ontario Human Rights Code
