SBHS After School Program, held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the SBHS Library. Students are encouraged to attend for many reasons, including getting help from a teacher, studying, doing homework, making up tests or quizzes, or simply having a quiet place to hang out. The program begins at 3:30 PM, with closures announced as needed. Snacks are provided, student drivers may leave at any time, and bus riders must stay until 5:15 PM. Best of all, the program is free of cost, making it a great resource for students seeking extra support or a productive after-school environment.

The Suicide Prevention Walk, held on September 21, brought our community together in a powerful show of hope and support. More than 50 participants joined the walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention, while 30 dedicated Youth Leadership Team volunteers from Sturgis Brown High School worked tirelessly to organize and run the event. Their commitment helped ensure that the day was meaningful, uplifting, and impactful for everyone involved.

Adding to the success, 10 members of the Police Athletic League supplied water and goodie bags, reminding participants that community support plays a vital role in prevention efforts. This walk served as an important reminder that by standing together, we can spread awareness, foster connection, and build hope.

Sturgis Brown High School Celebrates Homecoming Week 2025

Sturgis Brown High School was full of Scooper pride last week as students, staff, families, and community members came together to celebrate Homecoming Week, September 15–19. The festivities kicked off Monday evening with the annual Coronation Ceremony, a night filled with tradition and school spirit. Quinn Bruch and Lucy Hamer were crowned the 2025 Homecoming King and Queen, with the royal court including Kathleen Cook and Levi Brant, Ashley Standen and Sully Jost, Tori Williams and Peter Pi, and Iris Zylstra and Robert Sperling. Junior attendants were Gwenyth Pyle and Drew Engle.

Each day of the week brought a new class dress-up theme, from toga day and decade day to class T-shirt and character day, all building up to Friday’s Scooper Day. Students also showed their spirit by competing and cheering in numerous activities and Friday’s much-anticipated Homecoming Parade added to the excitement as the community lined the streets in celebration.

The week concluded Friday night, where the Scoopers faced Huron in the Homecoming football game. Despite a hard-fought effort, Sturgis fell 33–16. While the game ended on a down note, the spirit and pride shown throughout the week made Homecoming 2025 a memorable celebration of tradition, unity, and school pride for the entire Sturgis community.

FFA HEADED TO NATIONAL LAND & RANGE JUDGING CONTEST FFA HEADED TO NATIONAL LAND & RANGE JUDGING CONTEST

The Sturgis Brown High School FFA chapter is celebrating a big achievement this fall after winning the district Land and Range Judging Contest, earning a spot at the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma this spring.

The FFA team, made up of Jackson Cammack, Ellie Storm, Aydan Rhodes, and Garrett Rohloff, showcased their knowledge and skills during the district competition. Their strong performance secured the district title, with Cammack excelling individually to take home 1st place.

Now, the team is looking ahead to representing Sturgis—and South Dakota—on the national stage. Competing against some of the best FFA chapters in the country, the students will put their training to the test while gaining valuable experience in agriculture and environmental science.

This honor is not only a reflection of their hard work but also a testament to the support and dedication of the FFA program at Sturgis Brown High School
