FEBRUARY HUSKIE HOWL
STUDENT FOCUS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At Shadow Butte Elementary, we love celebrating students who embody our Core Values: Be Safe, Be Honest, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. This month, we are happy to highlight Grayson Palmer, a student who leads by example through his hard work, kindness, and positive attitude.
Grayson is the kind of student who gives his best effort in everything he does. Whether tackling a challenging assignment or lending a hand to a classmate, he approaches each task with determination and enthusiasm. His hard work and responsibility make him a fantastic role model for his peers.
Beyond academics, Grayson spreads positivity wherever he goes. He is a great friend—always encouraging others, showing kindness, and making sure no one feels left out. His willingness to help, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or during group activities, reflects his honesty and respect for those around him.
Grayson Palmer is a shining example of what it means to be a Shadow Butte Huskie. We are so proud to have him as part of our school community and can’t wait to see all the amazing things he continues to do! Keep up the fantastic work, Grayson! 💙🐾

NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
What is a School Counselor??
National School Counseling Week is February 3-7 this year. What is a school counselor and what are some of the things they do?
A school counselor is not a disciplinarian. They are not a schedule maker. They do not give mental health diagnoses.
A school counselors is a trained professional who helps students with their academic, social, and emotional needs. They help with academic achievement through helping students with study habits and anxiety. They help with social and emotional development through providing tools for students to learn emotional regulation and social skills. They encourage students to advocate for themselves by talking to the adults around them to make their needs known. They refer students and families to additional support agencies as the needs arise.
A school counselor is a vital part of helping students succeed and thrive in school.
Thank you so much for all your support for our counselor and what she does for our school.

NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Oh my Peas and Cheese! The flu, strep throat, and covid are thriving this winter. Throw whooping cough in there and it is a sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever, so you need rest season. Please keep your children home if they are ill. They must be 24 hours free from vomiting or fevers without medication before returning to school. If you suspect someone in your household to have one of these ailments, get in to see your healthcare provider sooner rather than later. Antibiotics or antiviral medications can decrease the length and strength of symptoms. Remember your vitamin C’s, drinking lots of water, and be extra diligent in washing your hands and surfaces frequently.
Thank you again for the generous donations of clothing. With these wet & muddy conditions they have been invaluable. You may all have noticed our young people (especially the boys) are drawn to water and mud. They can’t seem to avoid it as it is just so much fun. This means we are constantly going through our supply of pants. If you see your child return home with different clothes than when they left, please check their backpack. There may be a grocery bag with dirty clothes in it. We are always welcoming new or gently used clothing and shoes. For boys, sweatpants are especially appreciated, and the girls seem to prefer leggings. We are truly grateful for your donations of time, clothing, shoes, and funds to help us keep up with the needs of our beautiful young ones.
Thank you
Mandie Chambers RN
ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent for any reason, call the office at 208-365-0877 or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child. Thank you for letting your child's teacher know but they do not always have the time to get the message to the front office.
If doctor appointments are necessary during the school day, please bring a doctor's note for our records.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES - called in by 2:30
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 2:30pm. We cannot guarantee the change can happen after this time.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Pick up Procedures
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
SCHOOL LUNCH
If you haven’t yet filled out a Free/Reduced application, they are available on our website, online on Infinite Campus, or at the school office.
