National Librarians Month!

As we head into April, I want to take a moment to recognize National School Library Month and the important role our libraries and our librarians play across Albemarle County Public Schools. Here at SES we have an AMAZING librarian in Ms. Obrecht! Next time you see Ms. Obrecht please be sure to thank her for her dedication to Scottsville!

Panorama School Survey

Families - In addition to what we shared last week (having students in grades 3-5 reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will complete during classes with Mr. Gamble) a copy of the survey will be sent to you.

We are asking that all of our students and families participate in the surveys, as responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt as a school.

If you have any questions about the Panorama survey, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Gamble, our School Counselor.

Art Update

As you may be aware, Ms. McLaughlin has stepped away for the remainder of the school year. She asked that we share what an honor and joy it has been to teach the incredible young artists we have at Scottsville. Joining us as the long-term substitute for the art program will be Jeffrey Cortez, who is excited to help our students continue to explore and grow their artistic abilities.

Below is a little bio about Mr. Cortez.

I was born and raised in Virginia and I have been a substitute teacher in Albemarle County for the past three years. During those three years, I have been a long-term sub on two different occasions. I also worked abroad in KSA, as well as Kuwait for 5 years. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Geography at Old Dominion University and two associate degrees at PVCC. I have lived here in central Virginia most of my life and it's wonderful to work in the southernmost part of Albemarle County with all of you. Any kind of feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again for having me on this tail end of the 2025-2026 school year with all of you.

Please be sure to welcome Mr. Cortez to Scottville!

We still have lots of illness going around. Be sure to wash your hands often and check with Nurse Bittner if you are unsure whether your child should come to school or stay home.

Every parent, guardian, and staff member at Scottsville Elementary is automatically part of the PTO, no sign-ups, dues, or meeting attendance required. The PTO only works when our school community works together, and right now we truly need more helping hands. Even volunteering once or helping in a small way makes a big difference for our students and staff.
