A Note from Mr. Raleigh
If you happened to be at Gregory this week,
You would have likely seen (unless you are a sheep...continue reading):
- a dominant 7th grade basketball victory
-a deep dive (pun intended) into the themes of the classic novel The Pearl
-6th graders dissecting sheep's eyes (there it is!!)
and much much more!
Lastly, a few reflections on what made some of our students proud this week, as shared directly from the students:
-Passing my solo test for flying RC planes
-making the double A basketball team
-Getting into ILMEA
-Passing all my classes
-myself because i drew my favorite character
Top 3 Middle School Responses:
-my root canal
-Fighting off a wild raccoon that was trying to eat my ice cream.
-surviving (different student from the raccoon attack, FYI)
No animals were hurt in the crafting of these responses

IPSD 204: Every Day Counts!
Quarter 1 Attendance Recap
Being present at school is one of the most important tasks a family can focus on for student achievement. Attendance Works research shows the following research based facts:
64% of consistent kindergarten and first-grade attendees read at grade level by third grade.
By the 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a strong warning sign that a student is at risk of dropping out of high school.
By 9th grade, attendance is one of the single best indicators of whether a student will graduate.

Here is our current District 204 Attendance Data:
10.9% of our students are currently chronically absent
69% of our students have missed less than 5% of the school year so far
44% of our absences have been due to illness- a total of 16,903 illness absences (2,414 days of learning)
19% of our absences have been due to family related events- a total of 7378 absences
Quarter 2 Expectations for End of Quarter Celebrations
This year we are excited to kick off our theme of “Be the Reason” to help us acknowledge and celebrate all the wonderful things happening in our building. As students demonstrate and model our school expectations, they can earn Pioneer tickets that can be redeemed for various prizes or opportunities.
Additionally, at the conclusion of each quarter, students who have been recognized as Being the Reason for our success can attend a small celebration/activity for a portion of their day. These experiences will be planned by their team of teachers and communicated out prior to the event. There is no fee to participate, only a demonstration of meeting our expectations throughout the quarter as outlined below:
Students must not have any major disciplinary infractions during the quarter to attend. These expectations will reset each quarter.
A major disciplinary infraction would include one or more of the following:
3 or more detentions
Excessive absences or tardiness to school (10% of the cumulative days each quarter)
Any in or out-of-school suspension
Students who are not able to meet these requirements will be given the opportunity to work through various reflection and re-teaching of expectations during the celebrations and once completed they can join their classmates.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a successful and positive school year.
