🐻Grizzly News!
Greetings, Millswood Families! 🐻💚
Our first week back was full of energy, excitement, and a little of the usual post-break chaos! Getting back into our routines always takes some adjustment, but it was a great week of reconnecting and learning together. It’s always a great week to be a Grizzly!
🐝 Congratulations to Our Spelling Bee Winners!
Congratulations to eighth graders William Sanders and Alizabeth Brown, our school spelling bee winners! They will represent Millswood at the District Middle School Spelling Bee on Thursday, October 22, right here at Millswood. We’re proud of you both and will be cheering you on!
💚 Practicing the Grizzly Way
On Wednesday, administrators reviewed our behavior expectations with students, reinforcing what it means to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.
We also successfully completed earthquake and lockdown drills. For our lockdown drill, we partnered with IMReady, a risk management group working with our district, and Lodi PD. We received a very positive report on our preparedness and response!
Thank you to our teachers, staff, and students for taking these exercises seriously. Their preparation and cooperation help make Millswood a safe and caring place to learn.
🎳 A Little Fun on the Lanes
Some of our students receiving special education services will enjoy a bowling field trip on Tuesday this week! We hope they have a wonderful time making memories together. I wish I could join them—although my bowling skills might be better suited to cheering everyone on!
🍧 Wednesday, October 21: Minimum Day & Snow Cones
Wednesday is a minimum day, with students dismissed after sixth period at 11:38 a.m. Students may stay to eat lunch until 12:08 p.m.
Parent Club will also sell $3 snow cones at dismissal! Stop by for a delicious treat and support Parent Club, which helps provide opportunities and experiences for our students.
🌟 Friday, October 23: Honor Roll Recognition
On Friday, we will celebrate our Honor Roll students during first and second periods. This is an opportunity to recognize their academic achievement, hard work, and commitment to meeting expectations.
Students will be notified this week if they earned Honor Roll. This is a student-only recognition during the school day, so families will not attend.
Whether or not your student earned Honor Roll this quarter, we are proud of every Grizzly and encourage each student to keep growing, completing assignments, and asking for help when needed. A new quarter brings new opportunities to succeed!
Thank you, Millswood families, for your continued support. Let’s have another great week!
Go Grizzlies! 🐻💚
Front Office Reminders
Attendance Matters!
Being at school every day and on time helps students stay connected, build strong habits, and keep up with learning. Every day brings opportunities to grow, participate, and succeed!
Please help your Grizzly arrive ready to learn, schedule appointments outside school hours when possible, and notify the office when your student is absent. If attendance challenges arise, reach out—we’re here to help! 💚

One Little Dot, So Much More!
What began as a celebration of International Dot Day in Mrs. Shinn’s Art & Design classes grew into a colorful collaboration involving nearly 150 students and staff members!
Toward the end of the first quarter, our Grizzlies celebrated creativity, courage, and collaboration through an activity inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot. In the story, a student named Vashti doubts her ability to draw until her teacher encourages her to “Just make a mark, and see where it takes you.” One simple dot helps her discover her creative voice and build confidence.
Our Grizzlies took that message to heart! Using a variety of art materials, students and staff created dots of different sizes, colors, and patterns. Together, their individual contributions became a bold, bright mural that now welcomes everyone who passes through the hallway.
Thank you, Mrs. Shinn, for helping our students leave their mark on Millswood—and reminding us how much we can create together! 💚
