Carnegie Chronicle
October 2025
Note from the Director
Happy fall y'all!
I don't know about you, but I'm appreciating the cooler weather this year more than years past. It was a long time coming! This newsletter will be chock-full of fun events, updates, and information you won't want to miss. I'll keep my note short so you can get to it!
We celebrated Banned Books this month, with a talk at the UU Fellowship and library displays featuring titles that have been banned in various schools and public libraries. These have raised many questions and sparked thoughtful, positive discussions on the topic. As always, we support the First Amendment and your freedom to read!
In addition to our Thursday night spooky films this month, we are planning a documentary film festival on select Fridays in November and December. Dates and titles to be announced.
Have fun and stay safe,
Christina Danos
Meet the NWA Ghostbusters!
Before the film showing of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" (rated PG-13) this Thursday, October 23rd at 6PM, the real Ghostbusters will make an appearance. They'll give a short talk and show us how their equipment works, so come early and don't miss it. Located in the Library Boulevard Bookend building at 209 Spring Street. All ages welcome, free admission and popcorn!
The Eureka Springs Carnegie Public Library and The Eureka Springs Historical Museum are pleased to present a fascinating discussion panel on the life and times of quack doctor and notorious conman Norman Baker!
Seasoned Baker historians and authors Keith Scales, Sean Fitzgibbon, and Jeff Danos will discuss the history, mysteries, and misunderstandings behind the infamous mountebank from Muscatine, and his lasting legacy on the town of Eureka Springs and the 1886 Crescent Hotel. Free admission. Donations welcome. Hosted in the former 1886 First Presbyterian Church, now known as the Library Boulevard Bookend building at 209 Spring Street.
New Children's AWE Learning Computer Coming Soon!
Thanks to a Giving Tree Grant from the Carroll County Community Foundation, we will be able to replace the dilapidated children's computer in the library Media Center. The new machine will have early literacy programs, bi-lingual games in both Spanish and French, and AfterSchool Edge in a child-safe browser! We are extremely grateful to the foundation for choosing our project to fund this year.
The Friends Book Sale Room is preparing to undergo some much-needed renovations, thanks to a grant from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. In order to clear out as many books as possible before the work begins, all books will be $1 each and we will not be accepting donations until after the work is complete sometime this winter. Thank you for your understanding and patience!
The Little Free Pantry
The library now features a Little Free Pantry stocked with non-perishable food and personal hygiene items. It is mounted below the Little Free Library next to the Crescent Spring Gazebo. Both operate on the same philosophy of "Take what you need, leave what you can." Thanks to Don Matt for installing it for us!
