UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest
We are hosting the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest on February 8th. Students that earn a 1st division rating on a solo or ensemble will earn a letter jacket if they have not already done so. Students that play a Class 1 solo (from memory) or and Class 1 ensemble and earn a 1st division rating will advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest at the end of May in Austin, TX. These state qualifiers will have their picture added to our wall of fame in the band hall.
All Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds students will be assigned to an ensemble to perform at UIL Solo and Ensemble. We may be asking Symphonic Band students to help fill out ensembles. Please check your calendars to make sure you are free on February 8th for UIL. All students who go to UIL will be responsible for the entry fee ($12).
The $12 entry fee and $75 fee for the piano accompanist is due this week. Only wind players playing a solo will be required to pay the $75 accompanist fee. We can take checks written to Davenport Band Booster or cash.
All ensembles will be performing for a judge at our Ensemble Concert on February 3rd at DHS to get feedback before going to UIL that Saturday.
All band students not going to UIL Solo and Ensemble will perform a solo or ensemble at the
Ensemble Concert on February 3rd.
All ensembles will also be performing at the Casino Night on February 15th in the evening.
Area Auditions
Congratulations to the 31 students that have advanced to Area in ATSSB All-State Audition process! The final round of auditions to make the All-State band is Saturday, January 11th in Corpus Christi, TX. We will be leaving DHS at about 2:30 pm on January 10th to travel to Corpus Christi, TX. Please read the Area letter below with information on how to prepare for the next audition. Students will play all scales and all of each etude for the next audition.
Friday, Jan 10th 2025
- 2:30 pm - Depart Davenport High school for Best Western Corpus Christi, 300 N. Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX 78401, (361) 696-7833
- Stop at Calallen HS on the way to drop off percussion equipment
- 6:00 pm - Arrive at hotel, check in and go to dinner (paid by district)
- ~9:30 pm - Arrive back at hotel
Saturday, Jan 11th, 2025
- 7:00 am Breakfast at hotel/check out
- 8:00 am depart for Calallen High School (stay all day)
- 8:45 am Registration/Check In
- 9:30 am Student Meeting in cafeteria
- 10:00 am Auditions Starts
- 12:30 pm Lunch delivered to Calallen HS (paid by district)
- 3:30-4:15 Estimated ending time and leave contest site
- 5:00 pm (estimated time) depart for Davenport High School - and get dinner on the way home (paid by district)
- 9:00 pm (estimated time) Arrive at Davenport High School
