Executive Headteacher Message
We have had another wonderful week of learning at CTK!
We started the week with our whole school assembly on Monday, led by Mrs Lane. Every week we come together to share our CTK Mission Statement and sing our school anthem. It is a special way to begin the week, reminding us exactly who we are, what we believe in and bringing us together as one community. The words of our anthem are included below, so please ask your child to sing it to you at home!
This week during assembly we learned about St Francis of Assisi. This year, Pope Leo has declared a special Year of St Francis, encouraging Catholics around the world to reflect on St Francis’ example of simplicity, peace, care for creation and love for those in need. Throughout the year, we will be thinking about how we can follow his example in our daily lives and continue to live out our Mission Statement through our words and actions. As part of this Year of St Francis, we explored his life and the example he gave to others. Although he was born into a wealthy family, he chose to live a simple life dedicated to following the Gospel. Through his example, we learn the importance of patience, kindness and caring for others. These are values that help us to live out our Mission Statement each and every day.
October is traditionally known as the Month of the Rosary, a special time when we honour Our Blessed Lady and reflect on her faith, love and trust in God. The Rosary holds an important place in the life of our Catholic school, helping us to grow closer to Jesus through the example of Mary. Throughout this month, children across the school will be learning more about the Rosary and taking part in regular opportunities to pray it together, both in class and during collective worship.
Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended our coffee morning this week, organised by Ms Le Fleming. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community, share information, build connections and have meaningful conversations. We value these opportunities to strengthen the partnership between home and school, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time to attend. We look forward to welcoming even more families to future events.
This week we also celebrated Teacher Week. Some of our fantastic teachers took part in a video sharing their favourite thing about being a teacher. A common theme was the joy of watching children grow in confidence, develop their talents and make progress in their learning. Supporting children on this journey is a privilege that our staff value deeply and one that they never take for granted.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend and a great week ahead.
Mr Lane
Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) Policy
As part of our commitment to providing a high-quality education for all our pupils, we are currently reviewing our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) Policy.
As a Catholic school, we recognise and value parents and carers as the primary educators of their children. We therefore want to ensure that you have a clear understanding of our approach to RSHE, what is taught at each stage and the resources we use to support teaching and learning.
We are inviting all parents and carers to take part in a three-week consultation on our updated RSHE Policy. As part of the consultation, we are sharing the following:
- Draft RSHE Policy (linked below)
- RSHE curriculum information/resources: https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/unauthorised-access/?mepr-unauth-page=39674&redirect_to=%2Fcourses%2Fparent-consultation-tool-primary%2F
- Ten:Ten Resources for parents: https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/parent-portal/ USERNAME: ctk-n4 PASSWORD: finsbury-park
- Parent Consultation Questionnaire:https://forms.gle/V726tmZGspkmTeb37
- Parent Consultation Meeting: Tuesday 13th October 2026 4pm
We would like to invite parents and carers to an RSHE Parent Consultation Meeting on Tuesday 13th October 2026 4.00pm to 4.30pm in the School Hall
During the meeting, we will explain our approach to RSHE, share information about the curriculum and resources used, explain the distinction between statutory Relationships and Health Education and Sex Education, and provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions or seek clarification.
You can also share your views by completing our Parent Consultation Questionnaire: https://forms.gle/V726tmZGspkmTeb37
The consultation will remain open for three weeks, from Monday 5th October 2026 until Friday 24th October 2026.
Following the consultation period, all feedback will be carefully considered before the policy is finalised and presented to governors for approval. We very much value your views and hope that you will take the opportunity to read the information provided and contribute to the consultation.
Event Information
CTK Book Hut
We are incredibly lucky to have our brand-new Reading Book Hut, stocked with a wonderful selection of new books for children and families to enjoy. We warmly invite parents to borrow books, share them together at home, and return them when finished so that everyone in our school community can benefit.
The Book Hut is located outside of the library and can be accessed via the KS1 gate.
Reading for pleasure is one of the most powerful ways to support a child’s learning and wellbeing. Research from the National Literacy Trust shows that children who enjoy reading are more likely to read regularly, develop stronger literacy skills, build empathy and improve their overall wellbeing. In the UK, reading for enjoyment is a national priority, with the National Year of Reading 2026 encouraging families to make reading a part of everyday life. Thank you for helping us create a thriving culture of reading and for making the most of this fantastic new resource.
Caterlink- Autumn/Winter School Menu
Please find attached your menu for Autumn-Winter which starts on 2nd November 2026.
Please also see the attachments below for information on allergies and intolerances.
Safe drop off and collection
We would like to remind all families that the school car park driveway is not a drop-off point and should not be used for parking when bringing children to school. When cars stop in the driveway, children are often forced to walk around vehicles and into the road to access the school gates. As Tollington Park is a busy road with a high volume of traffic, this creates a significant safety risk for all our children. Parked vehicles in the driveway also prevent staff from entering the car park safely and efficiently.
We ask all parents and carers to be mindful of the safety of everyone in our school community when dropping off children each morning. Please do not park outside the school on Tollington Park. There are usually spaces available on Turle Road and other nearby residential roads, which provide a much safer option for drop-off and collection.
The safety of our pupils is our highest priority, and we appreciate your support and cooperation in helping to keep all children safe on their journey to and from school.
First Holy Communion
Parents of children who wish for their children to make their First Holy Communion are invited to contact St Mellitus Parish directly as the preparation classes will be organised and delivered by the Parish this year.

Attendance
Our attendance last week was 93.5%, which shows an improvement. However, it remains below the current Islington average, and there is still significant work to do. We know that even small improvements in attendance can have a positive impact on a child's learning, confidence and sense of belonging.
The autumn term is particularly important. It is a time when children re-establish routines, develop positive learning behaviours and build the foundations for a successful year ahead. Across the school, pupils are taking part in exciting, engaging and stimulating learning experiences every day, and we want all children to benefit from these opportunities.
To support improvements in attendance, we are meeting with families where attendance is causing concern. These meetings are intended to be supportive and collaborative, helping us understand any barriers to attendance and identify ways we can work together to ensure children are in school, learning and thriving.
You may notice a greater focus on attendance across the school. This may include:
- More regular communication regarding attendance levels.
- Earlier conversations with families where attendance begins to decline.
- Celebration of strong and improved attendance.
- Meetings and support plans for pupils whose attendance causes concern.
- Close working with the local authority and other external agencies where appropriate.
We ask all parents and carers to support us by:
- Ensuring children attend school every day unless they are genuinely too unwell to do so.
- Arranging medical appointments outside school hours whenever possible.
- Avoiding holidays during term time.
- Informing the school promptly if your child is unable to attend.
By working together, we can continue to improve attendance, maximise learning opportunities and ensure that every child at Christ the King has the best possible chance to flourish.

Wednesday Word
Each week, we share the Wednesday Word with parents. The aim of the Wednesday Word to help children grow their vocabulary and spark meaningful conversations at home about the weekly Gospel. It’s a simple but powerful way to make talking about the Gospel and the things Jesus said and did and how we can relate this to our own lives in a fun and interactive way.
How can parents use the Wednesday Word?
- Talk about the meaning: Ask your child what they think the word means, then explore it together.
- Use it in conversation: Challenge each other to use the word naturally during the day.
- Create together: Draw a picture, write a sentence, or make up a short story using the word.
- Connect to experiences: Ask questions like, “When have you felt this word?” or “Where might you see this word in action?”
What's on?
