Hello Canyon Valley Students and Families!

As we approach the final two weeks of the semester, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support. This is an important time of year for students, and we want to ensure everyone is fully prepared to finish the semester strong.

Below you will find the Final Exam Schedule for all students. Please review it carefully and help ensure that your student is present and prepared on each exam day.

Just a reminder: Students are expected to be at school for their entire school day on their exam days. The notated final exam schedule is for reference on which hour students will have their finals. The hours they are not taking finals is their opportunity to complete missing work, redo assignments for a higher grade, or to retake quizes or test for a higher grade.

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Seniors Graduating in December Only

Monday, December 15th

  • 1st Period

  • 3rd Period

  • 5th Period

Tuesday, December 16th

  • 2nd Period

  • 4th Period

All Other Students (including seniors NOT graduating in December)

Wednesday, December 17th

  • 1st Period

  • 3rd Period

  • 5th Period

Thursday, December 18th

  • 2nd Period

  • 4th Period

Important Final Exam Policies

Final exams are required for all students.

  • Final exams will not be administered early.

  • Students who do not take a final exam will receive a grade of 0.

  • Incompletes will not be issued.

  • Missed final exams cannot be made up.

Because these exams significantly impact students’ final semester grades, it is essential that all students are in school and on time each day.

Finishing Strong: Attendance, Make-Ups, and Re-Dos

The last two weeks of school are critical for academic success. We strongly encourage students to:

  • Attend school every day unless absolutely necessary.

  • Complete any missing assignments, quizzes, or tests.

  • Take advantage of opportunities to re-do assignments, quizzes, or assessments with low scores.

These steps can make a meaningful difference in final grades and help students finish the semester confidently and successfully.

Thank you again for your support as we close out the semester. Together, we can help every student finish strong and prepare for a successful spring term. If you have any questions regarding the exam schedule or academic expectations, please contact the school office.

Wishing all of our students a productive and successful end of the semester.

Warm regards,

Adam Strock

Principal

Introducing ParentSquare Introducing ParentSquare

We’re excited to announce that Gilbert Public Schools is launching ParentSquare as our new district-wide communication platform in January 2026. Our school will begin using ParentSquare in January 2026.

ParentSquare will bring school, district, and classroom communication into one place, simplifying our systems, improving consistency, and creating more opportunities for meaningful engagement across every school and classroom.

Starting after Winter Break, our families will begin receiving school and district messages via email, app, or text through ParentSquare. To activate your account, just download the free app so you can see all communications in one place and reply to messages, fill out forms, manage notification preferences, and more.

With ParentSquare, you’ll receive all school and classroom messages in one place and translated into your preferred language—whether by email, text, app, or web. You’ll also be able to:

  • Stay up to date on news and events

  • Send and receive messages with teachers and staff

  • Fill out forms and permission slips

  • Sign up for conferences and volunteer opportunities

  • View calendar items and photos from your school

Parents and families are encouraged to download the free app so you can view all communications in one place, easily and efficiently; however, if you choose not to, you will still receive these communications via email and text.

Measles Information Measles Information

Measles activity during the last few months in the Northern Arizona-Utah border has led to the second largest measles outbreak in the Nation and now you may have seen in the news that we have had two cases much closer to home. On November 5th and 6th there were positive cases reported at a hotel and also at a concert venue.

Therefore we would like to share some helpful and important information with our families. Typically the illness starts off with a fever, cough and runny nose. It is soon followed by a rash that typically starts at the head and soon covers the entire body. If measles does spread into our school community we will immediately begin working with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) and you will be notified. Any students who are not vaccinated will be identified and MCDPH will determine when they can safely return to school. Unvaccinated students may need to be out as long as 21 days and if more cases arise, it could be longer.

If you have any questions regarding measles please reach out to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health at (602) 506-6767 or Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

Canyon Valley is a Closed Campus Canyon Valley is a Closed Campus

Per Gilbert Public School (GPS) Policy JHCA, all GPS schools are closed campuses. Students are to remain on campus during the school day, including lunch, unless they are signed out by a parent/guardian in person or have approved release time. Students found to have been off campus (including being in the parking lot) during school hours may be subject to a search by school personnel and face disciplinary consequences including suspension.

Canyon Valley does not accept food deliveries from delivery services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or from restaurants. Students may purchase lunch from the school cafeteria or bring their own lunch from home. See the link below for information about cafeteria services.

Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved policies regarding student use of cell phones during the school day to promote student learning and well-being by reducing distractions and improving focus during the school day. All elementary schools and some of our junior highs have already been operating ‘Away for the Day,’ and our high schools have been operating ‘No Cell Bell to Bell’ during the 2024/25 school year. The policy will simply formalize these approaches.

Away for the Day Grades K-8: Once the school day begins, cell phones and wireless communication devices must be turned off or set to silent and stored out of sight (for example, in a backpack) for the entire school day, unless instructed otherwise by a staff member for educational purposes. This restriction includes earbuds and headphones as well.

No Cell Bell to Bell Grades 9-12: During instructional time, cell phones must be turned off or set to silent and stored out of sight (for example, in a backpack), unless instructed otherwise by a staff member for educational purposes. This restriction includes earbuds and headphones as well.

Know Your Ride

The Gilbert Police Department is introducing a new public education initiative: Know Your Ride, a campaign designed to help residents understand the important differences between electric bicycles and electric motorcycles and the laws that apply to each.

As electric two-wheelers become more popular, so can the confusion about how they’re classified and regulated. While electric bicycles and electric motorcycles may look alike, they are treated very differently under Arizona law.

What is Be SMART?

The Be SMART campaign was launched in 2015 to promote responsible gun ownership in order to reduce child gun deaths. Whether you’re a gun owner, or you know someone who owns a gun, there is a role for everyone in the conversation around secure gun storage. Be SMART is a framework that parents, caretakers, and community leaders can follow to help keep their communities safe. Ultimately, you can help prevent kids from accessing firearms by storing them securely, and encouraging others to do the same.

Safety & Security - Updates for High Schools Safety & Security - Updates for High Schools

To enhance safety measures that protect our students, staff, families, and the broader community, we continue to add to our wide range of safety and security tools, processes, and strategies. At the end of last school year, we implemented the use of weapons detectors at all of our high school campuses, and for the new school year, we will also be implementing a clear bag policy for athletic and other large events on our high school campuses.

Additionally, at Canyon Valley we will continue to utilize security cameras in all common areas and classrooms as well as the use of vape sensors in all bathrooms.

If your student is attending a GPS high school for a school event (i.e. sports, carnivals, etc.), please visit gilbertschools.net/safety for more information about expectations and processes.

Now Serving Lunch! Now Serving Lunch!

Canyon Valley is excited to share that, over the summer, we added food services to our facility and will be serving lunch daily on campus. Students will have the choice between a hot lunch or cold lunch with a bi-weekly rotating menu (see below). With the addition of a cafeteria and served lunch this does mean a couple of logistical changes for Canyon Valley students:

1. Food deliveries (i.e. DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) will no longer be accepted and will be turned away. Lunch is a busy time for our front office and organizing and delivering student food orders is not something our office staff can manage during that time.

2. All students have a student lunch account. You can apply for free and reduced lunches and or add funds to your student's account by credit card through the LinQ app or by bringing in a check or cash to the front office at the beginning of the school day. Credit cards and Apple pay, etc. are not accepted to purchase lunch. Instructions for adding funds to your student's LinQ meal account can be found below.

3. Canyon Valley will remain a closed-campus. Students are not permitted to leave campus during the instructional day unless they have an early release on their schedule and are finished with their academics for the day. Students who leave campus are subject to disciplinary action including the search of both their personal belongings and their vehicle.

Adding money to your student's lunch account?

Every student has a lunch account, it is up to the parent to add funds to the lunch account or to complete the free and reduced application. If you would like to add money to your child's lunch account you can do so one of two ways: Adding funds via the LinQ Connect App, or by bringing in cash or a check to the office. If you would like to add money via the app you will create an account (you will need your child's student id number). By creating an account you can choose to be notified when your child is low on funds and you have the ability to see which days they purchased a meal.
