We Pray
Saint of the Month
Living Like the Saints
Our virture focus this month is docility. Being docile means you are teachable and open to God's will. Practicing docility is essential in acquiring the virtue of prudence. The world rewards independence and the perception of control, perfection and polish. Conversely, God invites us to be pliable. From Isaiah 64:8 "Yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are clay, and you are our potter we are all the work of your hand." Docility is receptivity, it is yielding to wisdom, an invitation to release control and trust patiently. To be taught, we need to listen. Saint Jane Francis de Chantal is attributed the quote, "In prayer, more is accomplished by listening than by talking." St. Jane was docile to the direction of her spiritual director. She overcame perfectionism and a harsh personality in favor of gentleness, humility and compassion. Consider praying with this Psalm (25:4-5) "Make me known to your path, Lord; teach me your ways. Guide me by your fidelity and teach me, for you are God my savior, for you I wait all the day long."
We Learn
PBIS
In September and October, our PBIS school-wide lesson will focus on personal space. Lessons will be taught to all students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. Teachers and staff have noticed more students displaying physical touch in the hallways and on the playground, so these lessons will help students practice respecting each other’s personal space in different settings.
To reinforce this at home, parents can:
- Model appropriate personal space during family interactions.
- Use clear language to remind children about their “personal bubble.”
- Praise their child when they respect others’ personal space.
- Role-play different social situations where personal space matters (e.g., standing in line, greeting a friend, playing on the playground, sitting at the dinner table).
