Tiger Talk

December continues to be a joyful and busy time at West Cypress Hills, and our campus is full of excitement, leadership, and heart. From the energy our students bring each day to the special activities happening across grade levels, it is wonderful to see our Tigers learning, leading, and caring for one another.

One of the highlights of my week has been seeing the kind words shared through our CAVs shout-outs. Thank you to the families who have taken a moment to recognize a WCHE teacher or staff member. These positive messages truly make an educator’s day and mean more than you might know. Your appreciation lifts our staff and reinforces the strong partnership we share.

I’m also so proud of the ways our students are stepping up as leaders—whether through Student Council activities, school spirit events, or simply showing kindness and responsibility throughout the day. Coupled with your continued support for attendance, safety procedures, and daily routines, these moments reflect the pride and care that define our school community.

As we head toward the final days of the semester, thank you for staying connected and informed. Please take time to read below for important reminders, celebrations, and upcoming dates as we continue our journey from Growth to Greatness—driven by pride, strengthened by resilience, and led with heart.

With gratitude,

Amy Russ

Ho Ho Ho!

Friday, December 12, 7:40 am, we have an opportunity to enjoy a Tiger Rally in the Gym. The Lake Travis Middle School Band, Choir, and Orchestra will be performing for us.

Thursday, December 18, 7:40 am, Tigers will be singing jolly holiday songs in the Gym at our Tiger Holiday Rally. Families are welcome to come and sing along with us!

Friday, December 19, Tiger classroom holiday parties will be taking place according to our holiday party schedule.

If you'd like to join us for any/all of our holiday events, avoid waiting in line to obtain your badge by providing us with your RSVP by 10 am on Thursday, December 11.

Tigers demonstrating PAWSitive behavior are nominated to have their names added to our WOW Board. WOW Board members are then eligible to win a fun brag tag and Buddy Pass. The Buddy Pass entitles each WOW Board member to enjoy lunch on the stage with a buddy of his/her choice.

The photo above is of our WOW Board #9 for the 2025-2026 school year. Congratulations, Tigers!

LTHS Choir is pleased to offer a very special opportunity for 5th grade students to perform onstage with our high schoolers at a pre-show performance, 2:00 pm on January 31.

Students will need to be available 3 dates:

• Instruction for choreography January 10.

• Dress rehearsal with the high school students January 17.

• Performance January 31.

In October we launched an exciting initiative to boost student attendance. Each week, we feature a "Golden Goose" for every grade level. The class with the best attendance in each grade will receive the "Golden Goose" for the week. Additionally, attendance updates will be shared in our newsletters.

At the end of the semester, the grade level with the highest overall attendance will enjoy an ultimate recess! Also, students with perfect attendance every 9 weeks will receive a certificate from the office.

We appreciate your partnership in promoting excellent attendance. Let’s make this a great month and a great year!

In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.

The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.

Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.

For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
