A NOTE FROM MRS. GRUETZNER & MR. GROCCIA A NOTE FROM MRS. GRUETZNER & MR. GROCCIA

Dear Students & Families,

Thank you for coming to our Open House on Thursday night! It was great to see so many of you filling our classrooms and hallways. We all appreciate your support and partnership!

This is just a quick reminder that there is no school for students and staff this Thursday, 10/3, for Rosh Hashanah. We wish all who celebrate a happy holiday. There is no school for students this Friday, 10/4, for staff professional learning.

We would like to thank our PTO for sponsoring and organizing our Scholastic Book Fair! There was excitement in the air as we announced our daily winners of the "locker lotto," distributed coupons and gift certificates to teachers, and shared book trailers with students. While the in-person Book Fair is over, you can still shop online! This is a great opportunity to find titles that were sold out, use up those unspent eWallet funds, and continue to support our school!! Any online purchase between now and October 6 benefits NFMS. See below for more information!

As we enter our second month of school, we continue to review expectations with students. Our areas of focus are as follows: respect, inclusivity, safety, and empathy. We frequently refer to the acronym "R.I.S.E." We have reviewed our Code of Responsibility and Respect with students, and are familiarizing them with its structure and contents on a regular basis. Any behavior that disrupts teaching and learning, such as disrespect, or impacts the safety of our building, will be handled according to our Code. We ask that you take a few minutes to review it if you haven't already. We appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gruetzner & Mr. Groccia

AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION

We hope you have all had a chance to review the New Fairfield Public School’s Code of Responsibility & Respect. This document outlines expectations for behavior in school and the roles we each play in making sure that school is a safe environment for all.

In accordance with our district code, disrespectful behavior and disruption to the learning environment are Level 2 (and up) offenses. Consequences include, but are not limited to, an after-school detention. Detentions will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons right after school until 4:00. If students need transportation home, there is a late bus at 4:15.

Additionally, a reflection will need to be completed and signed by the student.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

REBELS FOOTBALL! REBELS FOOTBALL!

It's football season! Middle school students are encouraged and welcome to come out and support our Rebels. However, all students, MS age and younger, MUST be accompanied by an adult and adult supervision MUST be provided for the entirety of the event.

These rules are in place to ensure the safest environment possible. All students attempting to enter the game without an adult will be denied entry.

Please take a moment to read ouR NFPS Spectator Expectations.

Let's Represent Our Community Well

We want to be sure that all community members understand what the expectations are for all spectators, including students.

The SWC and New Fairfield High School encourage and expect good sportsmanship, a family friendly environment, positive fan support, and positive fan interaction. These expectations extend to all areas of the school campus and facilities before, during, and after athletic contests.

The SWC and New Fairfield High School do not condone and will not tolerate:

  • Inappropriate Behavior
    • Including but not limited to: profane language and gestures; targeting or taunting of players (including calling out names and numbers), coaches, officials, and game personnel; physical violence and spitting
  • Disruptions to the Game
    • Including but not limited to: fans approaching or storming the playing surface; throwing objects onto the field/court; destruction of property
  • Disrespecting Officials
  • Intoxicated Fans

Prohibited Items include: open containers at entry; baby powder and similar substances; noisemakers such as bells, whistles, air horns and megaphones; costumes that completely cover faces (medical-type masks for those who wish to wear them are permitted). No re-entry is permitted at sporting events.

Remember that attending sporting events is a privilege, not a right. Fans who display unacceptable behaviors or violations of the rules will be subject to sanctions including refusal of admittance, removal, and possible arrest. Students in attendance must still abide by the NFPS Code of Respect and Responsibility and will be subject to school consequences including exclusion from future events if they violate school or league rules.

All New Fairfield High School students in grades 9-12 are able to attend the game. Students in grade 8 and below must be accompanied by a responsible adult other than a high school student.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. GO REBELS!

BACKPACKS & DRAWSTRING BAGS BACKPACKS & DRAWSTRING BAGS

zoom_out_map

We've learned from experience that the hallways get very crowded during transition times. Backpacks are cumbersome and contribute to traffic!

Students are not allowed to carry backpacks with them throughout the school day. However, they are allowed to carry slimmer drawstring bags to help them manage materials.

*Chromebooks must be carried separately and NOT carried unprotected in drawstring bags.

PHONES & SMARTWATCHES PHONES & SMARTWATCHES

zoom_out_map

There will be no phones allowed from entry to exit. All phones must stay in lockers for the duration of the school day. If parents or guardians need to relay a message to students or get in touch, please call the school. Similarly, students are welcome to come to the office to contact their parents with the permission of their teacher.

Smartwatches are allowed as long as they are not used as cell phones (calling, texting, checking notifications, etc.)

  • 1st offense: Confiscation of a device by the teacher. Returned to student at the end of the class period to be returned to the locker.

  • 2nd offense: Confiscation of a device by the teacher and submitted to the main office. Returned to student at the end of the school day by the main office staff.

  • 3rd offense: Confiscation of devices by the teacher and submitted to the main office. Parent notified. Devices must be picked up by a parent/guardian in the main office.

  • 4th offense: Loss of BYOD privileges for a period of time to be determined by the administration.

More information can be found in our Student & Family Guidebook.
