🦁 Week 3: Growing Together Through Empathy
We have officially made it to Week 3 of the school year! Our Lion Cubs are settling into routines, building friendships, and learning more each day. We are so proud of the way our students are growing and becoming part of our Haw River Elementary family!
This month, we are focusing on one of our important Capturing Kids’ Hearts characteristics: EMPATHY. Empathy means taking the time to understand how someone else may be feeling and showing kindness and care toward others. 💛
At school, we are encouraging our students to pause, listen, think about how others feel, and choose kindness. Families can help reinforce empathy at home by asking questions such as, “How do you think they felt?” or “What could you do to help?”
Thank you for partnering with us as we help our students grow not only as learners, but also as kind, caring, and compassionate Lion Cubs! 🦁💙
Together, we ROAR!

**¡Juntos, rugimos!**
**Respeto • Responsabilidad • Académica • Resiliencia**

🩺 A Message from Our School Nurse - Un mensaje de la enfermera
When Should I Keep My Child Home?
We know it can be difficult to decide when your child is too sick for school. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff healthy and learning!
Please consider keeping your child home when they are experiencing:
🌡️ A fever — especially if your child has a temperature of 100.4°F or higher
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea — your child should be feeling better before returning to school
😷 Significant coughing, difficulty breathing, or other respiratory symptoms that prevent them from comfortably participating in school
😴 Extreme tiredness or weakness that makes it difficult to participate in normal school activities
👁️ Pink eye with drainage or symptoms that have not been evaluated when required
🦠 A contagious illness — please follow your healthcare provider's guidance and school guidelines for when your child may return
If your child is not feeling well enough to learn, play, eat, and participate comfortably, it may be best to give them a day at home to rest and recover.
Thank you for helping us keep our Lion Cubs healthy! 💙🦁
If you are unsure whether your child should attend school, please contact the school nurse for guidance.
