Summer Update #1 - July 1, 2026
July 1, 2026
A Summer Prayer ๐
For more light in the day, we thank you,
For gentle mornings, we thank you,
For nighttime conversations, we thank you,
For friends and family, we thank you,
For gardens and all manner of creatures, we thank you.
Help us, Creator and lover of our souls.
Help us love this earth.
Help us dwell wholeheartedly in our lives this day.
Help us pray as we walk, work, play, rest, and create.
Amen.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL ๐
My dear Bruin families,
I pray that this message finds each of you well and enjoying some measure of rest and relaxation. While summer often brings a welcome change of pace, I know many of us continue balancing busy work schedules while also serving as unofficial chauffeurs, shuttling our children from one activity to the next. Even amid the busyness, I hope the warmth of the summer season and the positivity of those around you provide opportunities to slow down, appreciate the moment, and approach each day with a sense of peace and perspective.
Here on campus, we have entered the second week of summer school. Although the energy and enthusiasm of our students continue to fill our halls, the campus remains noticeably quieter than during the regular school year. We are making good use of this season as we prepare for the 2026โ27 school year. From ordering instructional materials and welcoming new families to completing the many administrative tasks that accompany a successful opening of school, there is certainly no shortage of work to be done.
At the same time, summer provides us with a valuable opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments, challenges, and lessons of the past year. Those reflections help guide our planning and decision-making as we look ahead. We remain committed to continuous growth as both a school and a community, and I am excited about the opportunities, initiatives, and experiences that await us in the year ahead.
In just over a month, we will be together again, and I look forward to hearing about your summer adventures and time spent with family and friends. Until then, I encourage you to enjoy this season, embrace the moments of rest it provides, and make time for the things that bring you joy. My prayer is that this summer grants each of you the renewal, relaxation, and refreshment you so richly deserve.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

END OF YEAR PARENT SURVEY ๐
CALLING ALL COACHES ๐๐โฝ๐
As we begin preparing for the 2026-2027 school year, weโre excited to start building our
coaching teams for the upcoming sports season. The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) offers
a wide range of sports across fall, winter and spring, and weโd love to get a head start by
identifying interested parent volunteers now.
If you have a passion for sports and enjoy working with students, we invite you to consider
coaching one of our teams. Early planning will help us stay ahead with registrations, scheduling,
and coach certifications so our athletes can have the best experience possible.
Coaching is a great way to fulfill your mandatory parent hours while making a meaningful impact
on our student athletes. All coaches will be required to have completed Virtus training. Early
commitment helps ensure all requirements are met in time for the season.
Fall Sports include:
- Girls Volleyball
- Flag Football
- Cross-Country (A, B, and C level)
Winter sports include:
- Girls & Boys Basketball
- Bowling
- Cheer, Song, or Dance (A, B, and C level)
Spring sports include:
- Girls & Boys Soccer
- Girls Softball
- Boys Volleyball
- Track & Field (A, B, and C level)
- Golf (offered fall, winter, and spring)
Our A-level teams are for 7th -8th grade.
Our B-level teams are for 5th - 6th grade.
Our C-level teams are for 3rd - 4th grade.
If youโre interested in coaching any of these sports, please email Mr. Nearhoff as soon as
possible. Early planning allows us to register teams on time and create a smooth schedule for
practices and games.

CHILD SAFETY ๐จ
Did You Know?
July 4-5 || What is grooming?
Child safety experts consider grooming a core component of sexual abuse. Grooming is a manipulative process in which a person who intends harm gains access to a child, often through behaviors that seem innocent, and builds up a relationship that will ultimately allow the predator to abuse the child. Children who are groomed are slowly taught to accept and excuse any behaviors by the predator, because of the relationship that has been built up over time. A predator relies on manipulation to reduce a childโs resistance and to maintain secrecy. For more information on grooming, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โBehind the Smile: Uncovering the Warning Signs of Grooming, Part 1โ at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
