She said, "his consistency and dedication have definitely paid off, and I'm just so incredibly proud of him."

For reference, this is equivalent to 200 books (estimating 200 pages per book and 250 words per page).

Paine Elementary proudly celebrated Read Across America Week in partnership with the National Education Association’s Read Across America initiative. This year’s theme, Choose Kindness, served as a meaningful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our school and community.

Throughout the week, Paine welcomed a wonderful group of community leaders, district administrators, community members, and parents who generously gave their time to visit classrooms and share their love of reading with our students. Each guest helped reinforce the importance of literacy while also discussing what it means to choose kindness in our everyday lives.

Paine is grateful for the many individuals who helped make this week so special for our students. Opportunities like these strengthen the connection between our school and community while inspiring a lifelong love of reading.

Cahaba Elementary celebrated Read Across America Week with a variety of activities designed to inspire a love of reading. The week began with a joyful Book Character Parade starring our kindergarten and first grade students, who proudly dressed as their favorite literary characters. Throughout the week, each classroom was “booked” with a special bag of read aloud books connected to the daily reading themes and fun dress up days.

Students also enjoyed visits from a wide range of celebrity readers who helped bring stories to life. High school athletes, government leaders, Trussville City Schools administrators, authors, and community helpers all stopped by to read with students and share their love of books. The week was a wonderful celebration of reading and a reminder that stories connect us all.

At the Literacy Reimagined Conference 2026, literacy experts shared research-based strategies to strengthen reading instruction. Anita Archer highlighted the importance of explicit instruction through clear modeling and guided practice, while Louisa Moats emphasized the “speech-to-print” approach, connecting spoken language to reading and writing. Sessions also addressed phonological processing, dyslexia, and the use of universal screening to support effective, science-of-reading-based literacy instruction.
