Dear Leeds Families,
The fall season has arrived! I hope you have enjoyed the transition of the seasons over the past few weeks. Although at times it still feels a bit like summer with this warmer weather, fall will be upon us before you know it!
As happens each year, our teachers and students have spent a great deal of time over this first month and a half of school getting to know one another, building their classroom communities, and focusing on positive expected behaviors and routines for success. Teachers teach, model, practice, reinforce, and acknowledge expected routines and behaviors for the school environment.
As many of you are aware, we have a school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system (PBIS) with the expectations that Leeds Future Stars
Show respect, Try our Best, have an Awesome Attitude, and are Responsible and Safe
Consistency of expectations supports students in their learning and learning environment at school. When staff members notice students displaying positive, expected behaviors, students are acknowledged with a STAR Card to celebrate the good choices they are making each day.
So far, we are off to a GREAT start-- Thank you, Future Stars!

Hello Future Stars Families!
I hope everyone has had a great month and is ready for the fall season! We started classroom guidance lessons this month and learned about our brains and how they react when they are stressed or feeling a big emotion. Your student may be able to tell you about their Thoughtful Turtle, who helps us make decisions, think before we act, and get along with others, and their Protective Porcupine, who keeps us safe. We learned about when or porcupine might take over, for example, starting a new school, moving, conflict with friends, or feeling worried about what we see on the news. We also learned how to help our porcupine relax and our turtle take back over by taking deep breaths, exercising, asking for help, drawing and coloring, or spending time with someone you care about. Feel free to practice these skills or any other coping skills with your child(ren) at home!
During the month of October, we will be celebrating Healthy Choices Week. Watch our social media pages for ideas on how to make healthy choices work in you day to day life!
As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us! We have so much fun here at Leeds!

Things to Know
Bullying and Harassment Free District
The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.
Bullying and harassment are defined as any electronic, written, verbal, or physical act or conduct toward a student which is based on any actual or perceived trait or characteristic of the student and which creates an objectively hostile school environment that meets one or more of the following conditions:
- Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or property.
- Has a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s academic performance.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school.
If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
Fall Conferences - No School Days
