Dear Lipscomb Pride,

This week is full of excitement at William Lipscomb Elementary! From celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month to inspiring our students during Education Go Get It Week, our Lions are dreaming big about their futures. As I reflect on my own graduation journey (see photo), I’m reminded of how important opportunities and resources are in helping every student reach their goals.

That’s why North Texas Giving Day this Thursday is so important. Last year, we raised more than $16,000, and this year our goal is $25,000! Every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting our students—whether it’s classroom resources, academic programs, or enriching experiences that prepare them for college and careers.

I invite you to share our flyer with friends, family, and coworkers. Together, we can reach this year’s goal and continue to show why Lipscomb is the Pride of Old East Dallas.

I hope to see you all this Thursday evening at Liberty Burger for Spirit Night—another fun way to support our school while building community.

Each day this week we’re celebrating college, careers, and future opportunities for our students. On Friday, students can join the fun by dressing up in the attire of their future career OR drawing a picture of themselves in that role.

Let’s inspire our Lions to dream big about their futures! 🦁💜💛

Students recently completed the i-Ready Diagnostic, which helps us understand their strengths and areas for growth in reading and math. These results guide teachers in tailoring instruction to meet each child’s needs.

We encourage families to:

• Talk with your child about their diagnostic—ask what they felt confident in and what was challenging.

• Connect with your teacher to learn more about your child’s results and how you can support learning at home.

Dear Parents and Students,

We are excited to invite all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to join our new After-School

Instrument Ensemble! This is a fun and creative opportunity for students to explore music,

develop rhythm, and make new friends through playing a variety of percussion instruments,

including xylophones, bucket drums, and other exciting percussion instruments.

Ensemble Details:

• When: Thursdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM
• Where: Lipscomb auditorium
• Instruments: Xylophones, bucket drums, and other percussion instruments
• Start Date: Thursday, September 18, 2025
• End Date: Thursday, December 18, 2025

This ensemble is open to students in grades 3, 4, and 5, regardless of prior music experience. It’s

a great way to learn about music, improve listening skills, and work together as a group!

Important Information:

• Limited Space: We only have space for 20 students, so permission slips will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

• Permission Slips are due by Monday, September 15th

• Once the spots are filled, additional students will be placed on a waiting list.

We encourage all interested students to sign up as soon as possible to secure their spot!

Lipscomb Elementary

William Lipscomb Elementary is forming a boys’ basketball team this year through the Dallas Parks & Recreation League! A girls’ team may also be added depending on student interest.

Tryouts:

📅 Thursday, September 18

📍 William Lipscomb Elementary

Key Details:

• Who: 4th & 5th grade students (3rd grade optional)

• Practices: Tuesdays, 3:35–4:35 pm at Lipscomb

• Season: November 3 – late January (6–7 guaranteed games + playoffs)

• Games: Weekday evenings (5–7 pm start times) at schools or local rec centers

• Expectations: Students must be passing all classes to participate

• Coaching/Support: Parent volunteers Welcome! (district clearance required)

• Transportation & Equipment: Currently being finalized; updates will follow.

• If your child is absent, parents must submit an excuse note to the main office within 3 days of the student returning to school.

✍️ Excuse notes must include:

• Student Full Name
• ID Number
• Grade and Section
• Date(s) of Absence
• Reason for Absence
• Parent Signature

📄 After 3 consecutive absences, a Doctor’s Note is required.

📧 You can now email excuse notes to: lipscombattendance@dallasisd.org

• ✅ Please allow 8-10 days for absences to be updated.
• 🚫 Faxes are not accepted.
• 📎 All notes submitted must be originals.

• Staff Thanksgiving party
• 12 Days of Christmas gifts for staff
