The LAND Line

Happy November!! It's time to spotlight Native American Heritage, the Character Strong trait of Gratitude, and get ready for our first Green Peace Team-sponsored Movie Night!

We hope everyone had a fun, safe Halloween weekend. The next two days off of school for students hopefully will be a re-set for all of us! If you are already dreading how to survive the candy hangover with your kids, scroll down for more ways to pass the time at home!

Mrs Land will wrap the lesson rotation on 'responsibility' during this short week, welcome McCallum PALS mentors to Maplewood for their first visit, and try to join the Maplewood Meet-up on Friday morning to promote a Fall Caregiver Connections event (scroll down). Please look at those email inboxes for notifications about McCallum PALS permission forms (DUE ASAP), new lunch groups starting up and holiday help resources. We are looking for donors to support the Maplewood Cares mission. Check out the details for GIVING or RECEIVING below!

If you're stressed about election outcomes, there are some special reminders included in this issue.

Breathe deep and carry on, Peacemakers!

Families in our school community need help putting food on the table every day, not just on holidays. Next time you are at HEB, pick up a $25 gift card and deliver it to Cari Land at Maplewood. Your donation allows the Maplewood Cares team to meet immediate needs in November & December.

Want to make it a teachable moment with your kids? Wander down the toy aisle or their favorite snack section of the store and ask them to notice the price of those items. Let them use the calculator on your phone to add up the total. Tell them to remind you at the checkout counter to buy a gift card in that amount to help families pick out something special that they might not be able to afford.
