Dear Families,

On Monday we held our first PBIS Assembly of the 23-24 school year, and it was a highlight of the week! “PBIS” stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and is the foundation of our behavioral expectations and social-emotional learning at Wessagusset. Each month we focus on an important skill, and students who demonstrate positive behavior are recognized for their efforts. Classes receive “Praise Paws” when staff members see them following behavioral expectations, and individual students receive a PBIS ticket when a staff member sees them demonstrating our school values: Respect, Ownership, Achievement, and Responsiblity. This year we’ve made a few changes to our PBIS routines, and we’re already seeing great results! Instead of just two ticket winners each month, this year a ticket winner will be chosen from every classroom and they will receive a certificate and recognition for their positive behavior. Staff members can now nominate their colleagues for the positive impact they have on our school community. We think these new traditions will help us reinforce and recognize the great behavior and social skills that we see each day at our school. Be sure to ask your child about October’s focus: being a “Bucketfiller”!

We have lots of important information to share this week:

  • PBIS Paw Winners for September:

    • 1st Place - Mrs. Gould’s class (Gr. 1)

    • 2nd Place - Mrs. Labriola’s class (Gr. K)

    • 3rd Place - Mrs. Dewitt’s class (Gr. 2)

    • Golden Dustpan Winner for cleanest classroom: Mrs. Labriola’s class

  • Important reminder! There is no school tomorrow, Monday, October 9th (Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day) and Tuesday, October 10th (Professional Development).

  • Dogs at arrival and dismissal: Please be aware that dogs are not allowed on WPS school grounds during arrival and dismissal. We know how well-loved and important pets are, but we have many students (and a principal) who are afraid of dogs, so we ask for your cooperation in following this rule. Thank you for your help!

  • The first Wessagusset Playground Committee meeting for the 23-24 school year will be held in-person on Tuesday, October 10th at 3:15 in the Wessagusset Library

  • Volunteers needed! Join us on Saturday, October 28th as we refresh the painting on our recess hard-top area! No artistic skills are required, we promise! Volunteers in the morning, afternoon, or even the whole day would be a huge help. We hope to see you there! Sign-up here:
