This past week, our 8th graders got the awesome opportunity to visit the River Raisin Battlefield in Monroe with their history classes. They learned a lot about the battle fought there in January of 1813 which was a part of the War of 1812. The museum offered them the chance to learn about Native American life during the time period, watch a short documentary about the battle itself, watch a ranger dressed in militia clothing from the period fire a musket, and they learned about the importance of the fur trade back then. They enjoyed themselves, learned a lot, and did a great job representing Franklin!
SPRING CONCERT
Lights! Camera! Action! Franklin Middle School is proud to present our spring music concert "A Night at the Movies". Enjoy listening to our choir, orchestra, and bands perform familiar tunes from your favorite films. This concert is free to attend and open to the public, so bring the whole family for a fun-filled evening. Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00 pm in Wayne Memorial's Stockmeyer Auditorium. Come early to enjoy the art show in the auditorium lobby featuring student art work. See you at the movies!
Dates, Times, and Information for all 8th Grade Activities
Students and Staff Member of the Week!
We want to give a BIG shout out to our three students of the week and our staff member of the week! In the month of May our behavior focus is respectfulness. These students were selected by a staff member because they are so RESPECTFUL!
Our 6th grade student of the week is Gabriella Johnson selected by Ms. Schutte.
Our 7th grade student of the week is Robert Jackson selected by
Mrs. Southern.
And our 8th grade student of the week is Travonna Washington selected by Ms. Smith.
Each one of the students was allowed to choose a staff member here at FMS that best displays the behavior focus of the month. The three staff members selected were…
1. Mr. Kupovits picked by Gabriella
2. Ms. Peterson picked by Robert and
3. Mrs. Weston picked by Travonna
We put all three names in a drawing and pulled the winning staff member’s name for the week. This week’s staff member of the week is…… MR. KUPOVITS!
Congratulations to all of the students of the week and the staff member of the week! The spotlight will be on you all this week on WFMS and around FMS!
6th Grader Gabriella Johnson
7th Grader Robert Jackson
8th Grader Travonna Washington
Gratefulness Blooms at FMS!
During Teacher Appreciation Week, our amazing students from the PBIS Student Team got together and planted flowers for our amazing teachers here at Franklin in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week! We planted Impatiens and Marigolds and delivered them personally to the teachers in their classrooms. We didn't stop there, however. Since all of the adults in our building teach us and guide us on our path to learning, we decided to deliver the remaining flowers to our amazing office staff, counselors, para pros, nurses, behavior coordinators , support staff, and awesome kitchen staff! The students here at Franklin appreciate ALL OF YOU and these flowers were just a small token of that appreciation! Thank you for all you do!
Visitor Rules
Thank you, Franklin families, for your patience and adherence to our new visitor protocol. As a reminder:
- A valid ID must be shown at the front door for entry to the building. There are no alternatives to this protocol. If you do not have a form of ID, you will not be permitted into the building.
- It is important to maintain your student's emergency contacts, especially if your student needs to be picked up early. Please visit https://sisweb.resa.net/ParentPortal/ to make any necessary changes.
- Students may be picked up early through 2:20pm. There are no early dismissals after 2:20pm.
- Appointments will be necessary to speak to staff regarding concerns. Please call the school office at (734) 419-2400 to schedule an appointment.
Thank you for following these district-wide rules.
Important Reminder: Student Safety & Prohibited Items
We would like to remind families that students are not permitted to bring toys, stuffed animals, or blankets to school, as they are distracting to the educational process. In addition, to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we want to remind families that students are not permitted to sell or distribute any items at school, including food, snacks, drinks, candy, or other goods.
First offense: Items will be confiscated, and a parent/guardian will be contacted to pick up the items.
Second offense: Items will be confiscated, and the student will receive a suspension.
In addition, students must not bring illegal substances or prohibited items to school for the purpose of selling, distributing, or personal use. This includes, but is not limited to, vapes, weed pens, THC products, gummies, or any other controlled substances. Possession, use, or distribution of these items is illegal and strictly prohibited.
Disciplinary consequences will begin with suspension and may escalate to a required disciplinary hearing. Please note that our campus is a drug-free zone, and families may also face citations or legal consequences in accordance with state law.
We also strongly remind students never to accept or consume items from others, especially if the item is not a clearly labeled, store-bought product in its original packaging. For example, students should never take or eat unwrapped or unlabeled candy or food items. This is a critical safety measure.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home to help us maintain a safe and healthy school environment for all students.
Tiered System of Support
We use a tiered system of support to address student conflicts, concerns and behavior:
Behavior Coordinators: Mrs. Akerley (6th grade) and Mr. Richmond (7th/8th grade) are the first point of contact.
Positive Behavior Interventionist: Mr. Stockman supports all three grades and oversees our behavior team.
Counselors & Social Workers: For social skills, friendships, or mental health concerns, please reach out to our counselors—Mrs. Thomas (A–K last names) or Ms. Fuqua (L–Z last names). Our social workers, Ms. Davis and Ms. Truesdell, are also available to support students and families.
Academic Concerns: Please email or Dojo your child’s teachers directly. If the concern is unresolved then reach out to administration.
Special Education: For questions related to special education, contact our Teacher Consultant, Mrs. Renae Daniels. She will direct you to the correct person.
