A Message from Mrs. Domenica Beiter, Director of Admissions and Development

Dear families,

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend!

Despite being a short week, our school was full of energy and activity. Students and faculty jumped right back into learning, and we continue to be so proud of all the engagement happening throughout the school.

This month, it's been especially heartwarming to see our middle school students working on their community service hours. They have been enthusiastically offering to help with so many aspects of school life, showing initiative and a sense of responsibility.

We ask our students to give back to their communities as part of their educational journey, and we believe that it is just as important for families to model that same spirit of service. We ask families to complete 10 hours of volunteering towards the school each year. This could be through chaperoning a field trip, helping with a classroom activity or party, donating candy for Trunk or Treat, or so much more. You will hear about a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

Many of you have already started logging your hours on the FACTS Family Portal. Be on the lookout for an email with directions on how to log your family service hours if you're not sure how to do so.

Thank you for being such an essential part of our vibrant and supportive school family!

All families are invited to donate candy for their class car. Candy donations can be dropped off starting on Tuesday, October 21st in the school office. Your donation is equivalent to 1 hour of community service to the school. Please remember that all candy should be nut free.

School Mass

Grades K2-8 attended Mass on Wednesday, the feast of St. Theresa of Avila, a Doctor of the Church. Fr. Jonathan gave a beautiful homily reflecting on the Gospel John 15:1-8. He emphasized Jesus’ words, “I am the vine, you are the branches,” teaching us that we must stay connected to God to really bear fruit. Students actively participated, sharing ways they can stay connected with God such as praying during school and at home, attending Mass, and participating in community life. Fr. Jonathan sang, in Spanish, a prayerful poem written by St. Theresa of Avila, a Saint who wrote a great deal about having a life of prayer. Thank you to our student lectors and altar servers who participated in the Mass. Thank you also to our beautiful school choir who sang all the hymns throughout the Mass, led by our music and drama teacher Ms. Pereyra and parent Elisabeth Etaix.

Faculty and Staff Professional Development Day

On Tuesday, we had an inspiring and beneficial day for our faculty and staff as they came together to further their own learning in order to provide the best possible education to our students! The day consisted of multiple sessions. One initiative we are implementing this year is Learning Walks. Teachers will be observing their peers, offering feedback, and learning from each other throughout the year. These Learning Walks were launched at our professional development session on Tuesday and will continue throughout the year with facilitators from Cor Creative Partners. Another session was led by Dr. Christine Nadjarian entitled, “Building Brains - The Science Behind Neurodevelopment.” A third workshop was led by Dr. Maria Enrique on supporting Multilingual Learners in the classroom. This was such a wonderful way to delve deeper into pedagogy and theory around best practices in education!
