What is Canvas?

Canvas is a Learning Management System that allows teachers, students and parents to stay connected. This is a one-stop-shop! Teachers can provide materials, grade quizzes, promote class discussions, use as a classroom website and manage grades. Plus you can embed engaging media tools!

Introductory Task

How to access your Canvas page:

1. Go to www.fcschools.net

2. Click on 'Quick Links'.

3. Select 'NC Ed Cloud - PowerSchool'.

4. Type in your UID Number and Password.

5. Select the 'Canvas' icon.

6. You should be on your 'Dashboard' (look on the left side to verify)

7. Select ANY class you would like to work with.

8. Go to your 'Home' page.

9. Click the 'Edit' button (located on the right side)

On your home page you must include the following:

  • Teacher Information (First & Last Name, Contact Information, Subject, Grade Level)
  • Image (Make sure to follow copyright laws)
  • File or Link to your 'Class Syllabus'
  • Important Dates for your class (This must be current!)
  • Remediation Day & Time

Canvas Challenge

Organize your Canvas page for students:

1. Click on 'Modules' (located on the left side).

2. Click '+Module' (This will create the heading for your unit, week or topic).

3. Click the '+' button underneath the Module title you just created

4. From the drop down menu, you can add different elements to your Module.

5. Organize ONE Module and include all of your unit or selected standard content and information (you can mix and match with files, videos, URL links, etc.)

Remember, the goal is to provide a list of resources, notes or a description of what you are working on in your class for your students. This can help when students need additional practice or if they were absent.

If you need help with adding the tools, click on the 'Canvas Training' Button.
