Dear KMS Families,

On Wednesday, KMS students will attend an important Internet Safety Assembly presented through the FBI’s Community Outreach Program. This 45 to 60 minute session is one of the most requested youth presentations in Alaska and is designed to help students better understand how to stay safe online. (See modified bell schedule for Wednesday, below.)

The presentation will begin with an FBI 101 overview, explaining who the FBI is, what they do, and how they serve communities. From there, agents will focus on internet safety topics that are especially relevant to middle school students, including cyber hygiene, responsible social media use, cyberbullying, and how to recognize warning signs of online exploitation.

Students will also learn about sextortion, which law enforcement identifies as the most significant online threat facing young people today. The goal of this assembly is not to alarm students, but to empower them with knowledge, awareness, and practical strategies to make safe and responsible choices in digital spaces.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the FBI to provide our students with timely, real world information that supports their safety and well being. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the office.

7TH GRADE PE/HEALTH - PERMISSION SLIP FOR MOVIE

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

As part of our 7th Grade Health curriculum, students will be watching the documentary Super Size Me (rated PG-13), which connects to our nutrition unit.

Because the film is PG-13, a signed permission slip from both the student and a parent/guardian is required. The permission slip is attached to this email. Students were also given a paper copy in class, and the form is available on Schoology if needed.

Please return the signed permission slip as soon as possible, preferably before Wednesday of this week, since we do not have school on Thursday or Friday. The final due date is Monday, February 16th.

If any student or parent/guardian is uncomfortable with the documentary, students may opt out and will be provided with an alternative supervised location.

We will begin watching the documentary on Monday, February 16th, and finish it during the next scheduled Health class.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

- Mr. Fogle

MRS. CINDY'S CULTURE EXPLORERS FLEX CLASS PERFORMS AT KIBSD IN SERVICE

Mrs. Cindy's Culture Explorers Flex students were invited to perform at our Multicultural Teachers’ In Service on Friday, February 13, 2026.

The students were showcasing both Pandanggo sa Ilaw, a traditional Filipino folk dance known for its grace and balance, and Arnis, a dynamic Filipino martial art that highlights discipline, coordination, and cultural heritage.

We are incredibly proud of their willingness to represent global traditions with confidence and respect. Their performance will be a powerful celebration of culture, history, and the vibrant diversity within our school community.

MS. Z'S FLEX/STEM CLASS

In STEM this week, our students put their engineering skills to the test with a hands-on bridge-building challenge. Using only 15 straws and one meter of tape, teams designed and constructed their own straw bridges, carefully balancing creativity, strategy, and structural strength.

After some impressive problem-solving and teamwork across the board, congratulations go to Ryan Filipowicz, Miggy Sevilla, and Genki Seto, whose winning design held an incredible FIVE iPads before reaching its limit. Talk about strong foundations and even stronger collaboration!
