Cozine Climber Updates - November 2026
A Note From Cozine:
Hi Climber Families!
We are approaching the end of the first semester. Students will be taking the winter iReady tests soon. Make sure you talk to your child about working hard and trying their best on these tests. Teachers use student test results to help drive instruction, and students work on their personal iReady learning path based on these tests, so this data is important to us. You can find more information about this below.
In Kindness,
Dr. Jodi Notch and Ms. Tamara Martinezjunco (Ms. MJ)
NEW INFORMATION
Upcoming Days Off
Mark your calendars for these upcoming dates:
Wednesday, November 11 - Veterans Day
Wednesday, November 25-Friday, November 27 - Thanksgiving Break
Monday, December 21-Monday, January 4 - Winter Break (Students return Tuesday, January 5)
Assisting Lives in Las Vegas Clothing Delivery
If you completed the form to get a clothing bag, our clothing delivery day is Thursday, November 5. These items were generously provided to our school by Assisting Lives in Las Vegas.
All bags will go home with each student who filled out the form. Clothing bags contain shirts, pants, shoes, a sweatshirt, socks, underwear, a blanket, and a hygiene kit. All items provided to students are brand new.
These clothing bags are bulky and can be heavy. Pickup day might be a good day to pick your student up from school. This is especially important for students with smaller and/or several siblings who might otherwise walk home together.
If you misplaced or forgot to send in the form for your child, it's not too late. Contact your child's teacher or the Cozine front office to get another form and turn it in ASAP. Bags will be provided for all Cozine students this school year.
i-Ready Inform Testing Window: November 16–December 3
Cozine students will be taking the Winter i-Ready Inform assessments between November 16 and December 3. These assessments help us better understand each student's current skills and identify areas where additional support or enrichment may be helpful. You can help your child feel prepared by reminding them of a few simple testing tips:
Try your best, even when a question seems challenging.
Think carefully before choosing an answer.
Stay focused and don't rush through the assessment.
Most importantly, remind your child that we are proud of their effort and want them to do their best. The goal is to show what they know and what they are ready to learn next!
Birthday Celebration Reminder
At Cozine, we allow ONE store bought, individually wrapped item to be shared with the class for birthday celebrations. Parents can drop items in the front office and they will be handed out at the end of the day as students leave. Parents/ Guardians are NOT permitted into the classroom to deliver treats. Please call the front office if you have questions.
Family Game Night
Join us for Family Game Night on Thursday, November 12th from 5:00PM - 6:00PM. We will have lots of games for you to play, as well as snacks and drinks for sale!
Missed Picture Day? Need a Retake?
If your student missed picture day or you would like a new photo, this is your chance. Fall Picture Retake Day will be on Wednesday, November 18. Please have your student return their package to the photographer on retake day. Dorian will reprint your package with your retake day image at no additional cost to you. If you are a Digital Download only customer, please provide the photographer with a printed copy of your receipt in lieu of a picture package. Dorian will also reprocess your digital order at no additional cost to you. If your student(s) will be attending retake day, please make sure their teacher is aware your student(s) will be sitting for retakes.
If your student was absent on picture day, they will be photographed for the yearbook and their school ID on this day. If you would like to order pictures, you may request an order form from the front office or place an order online at mydorian.com before picture day and for up to 2 days afterward.

Wellness Team Support
As we move further into our school year, it has been wonderful to see our students working hard, growing, and putting forth their best effort each day. Along with all of their hard work, students may experience a variety of emotions, including excitement, pride, frustration, or even worry. These feelings are completely normal and are all part of learning and growing!
Helping students recognize, understand, and manage these feelings is what we call emotional regulation. Emotional regulation is an important skill that helps children understand their emotions and learn healthy ways to manage them. When children develop these skills, they are better able to stay calm, make positive choices, work through challenges, and remain focused on learning.
Learning to manage emotions takes time, patience, and practice both at school and at home — and that's perfectly okay!
This month, we're excited to share "Tips for Helping Kids Manage Their Emotions," a short guide filled with practical ideas and strategies you can try at home. Some suggestions include:
● Using a feelings chart to help your child recognize and name their emotions.
● Recognizing warning signs that may indicate big feelings are starting to build.
● Practicing calming strategies such as deep breathing, blowing fun pinwheels, or taking a short break to reset.
By working together at home and at school, we can help our students build confidence, strengthen their emotional awareness, and develop healthy coping skills. Together, we can help them feel more balanced, regulated, and ready to learn each day!

REMINDERS
This section of our newsletter contains reminders from previous newsletter publications which are still relevant and important.
REMINDER: Birthday Celebrations
REMINDER: APPLE CORE Program
APPLE CORE is our school-wide reading incentive program. All students (K-5) should be reading at home daily. Reading daily positively affects academic achievement, improves writing skills, stimulates creativity, and helps to build empathy. All minutes read should be recorded on your child's APPLE CORE bookmark. Once the bookmark is complete, it should be returned to your child's teacher. Your child will be sent to the library to receive a pencil, a school necklace charm, and a coupon. Your child will also have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel.
Also, this year, we will have a special reward for the first 50 students to turn in a completed APPLE CORE bookmark in each grade! See the flier below for more information on this exciting prize!
REMINDER: Arrival and Dismissal
ARRIVAL:
Campus arrival time is 9:00 am. There is no supervision on campus before 9AM. Students arriving to campus will enter at the double gates to the right of the school building. We ask that parents drop students off at the gate to alleviate congestion at the MP room doors. Students will enter the MP room and be served breakfast. We have plenty of staff members at the gates and throughout the school to help your children find their classrooms.
Any students who arrive to their classroom after 9:15am are marked tardy. Please consider this when dropping your student off as it takes them time to walk through the breakfast line and get to their classrooms. We are setting a goal to reduce absences and tardies this year.
DISMISSAL:
Dismissal is at 3:26 pm.
For dismissal this year, please pick your students up at the following locations:
Kindergarten - on the Kindergarten playground
1st-3rd Grade - in the back of the building near the pod doors
4th Grade - near the primary playground
5th Grade - near the intermediate playground
The gates will open for parents at 3:26 pm, and you can walk to the above outlined locations to meet your child’s class for pick-up. Playgrounds are closed for use before and after school. Please note: middle school students who are picking up siblings are not permitted at school before 3:26 and if they are on campus, they will be required to sit on the wall until the dismissal bell rings.
Students must go home at the 3:26 dismissal bell unless they are involved in an approved after-school program. Since safety is foremost in our minds, we ask for your help only allowing your student on campus during school hours as there isn’t supervision before 9:00 am and after 3:26 pm.
For your convenience, Safekey is available at our site. If you would like more information regarding Safekey, call 702-633-1608.
Parking at Cozine
To help ensure the safety of students walking to and from school, Cozine's parking lot is closed to general traffic. Access is limited to CCSD employees, school buses, and vehicles displaying a valid Handicapped Pass. If you meet one of these criteria and need to enter the parking lot, please speak with a member of the Cozine duty team for assistance.
To provide a consistent and safe traffic flow for our students, all vehicles entering the parking lot should use the north entrance and exit through the south driveway. Our staff monitors and enforces this traffic pattern to help keep everyone safe. We appreciate your cooperation in following these directions.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Cozine, students are required to keep their personal communication devices off and in their backpacks during school hours. Students are permitted to use their phones before and after school and if there is an emergency on campus. This aligns with District policy that helps prevent bullying, cyber bullying, unfiltered internet access, and cheating. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to the office or school administration. At this time, we will not be using the signal blocking cell phone pouches at Cozine ES.
