Focus Policy
This one is easy! It's No Fly Focus...every day.
We love seeing our students connect with teachers, but during Focus period, we follow one very strict, supernatural law - The Vampire Rule.
Much like the creatures of the night, students cannot enter another teacher's classroom during Focus unless they have been formally invited with a pre-arranged pass.
Why the rule? Focus is meant to be a high-value time for academic support, catch-up, targeted instruction, and to make up assessments. Hallway travel without a destination creates distractions for everyone.
How it works: If a teacher needs to see you, they’ll issue a pass. Otherwise, your default location for Focus is where you belong for the duration.
PS - This is the one instructional period of the day that you get to use your phone - unless we've got HSBP, you're taking a test, or your teacher tells you no phones during Focus!
Tech Platform Changes
Hockinson School District will be updating some of our educational technology platforms for students and parents. We want to share what you can expect and where to find information beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Read more here.
PSATs - October 14
ALL Hockinson High School Juniors take the PSATs free-of-charge on October 14. This is a sign of our belief and investment in our students. Regardless of the career path you are on, you will take a high-stakes test. And who knows? Maybe you'll open some other doors that you didn't think were available to you.
October 14, 2026 - ALL Juniors; Sophomores can opt to take this test for $20 (if a sophomore takes it in the fall, they cannot take it in the spring)
Spring 2027 - Sophomores can take this test as long as they did not take it in the fall; this test is also open to Freshmen

Senior Yearbook Information
Senior Off-Campus Pass Information
Hockinson High School is launching our program allowing seniors to leave campus for lunch once a month. This initiative rewards students, supports local businesses, and builds time management and responsibility.
Key Details & Requirements:
Eligibility: Seniors on track to graduate with good attendance (0 unexcused absences, no more than 3 tardies in the issuance month).
Mandatory Permission Slip: Parents/guardians must opt-in. No signed form = no pass. Forms require signatures from both the parent/guardian and the student.
Accountability: Returning late results in losing the pass for the following month. Off-campus privileges will be revoked for the entire year for drug/alcohol/vape violations or for transporting non-qualifying students off campus.
Note: This is a trial project. Future frequency or full continuation of the program depends on student compliance and community feedback.
Seniors - Service Academy Information Night
From the Office of Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Member of Congress
On Tuesday September 8th, my office will host an information night for students interested in applying to our nation’s military service academies. The event will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Columbia Room at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St, Vancouver, WA 98660.
The information night will have two parts: presentations and an open house. During the presentation, each service academy will give a brief presentation on their academy and their applications processes. A staff member from my office will also give a presentation on the process for receiving a congressional nomination. Following this, attendees will be free to meet with service academy representatives.
High school juniors, or anyone 17-22 years old who lives in Washington’s Third District, are able to apply for a service academy nomination from me through my website. The deadline for 2027 service academy nomination requests is Sunday, November 15, 2026.
Every year, I’m impressed by the incredible students from across Southwest Washington who step up to serve their country and our community. I’m hosting this information session to support the next generation of young leaders as they apply to our nation’s military service academies.
My team always stands ready to support students with the application process. Those with questions not listed in the FAQs are encouraged to reach out online, by phone at (360) 695-6292, or in person at my Vancouver or Kelso offices.
Sincerely,
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
Member of Congress

🏆 Extracurricular Reminders & Academic Eligibility
Participation in athletics, theatre, band, and clubs is a privilege, and we encourage all students to get involved! To remain eligible:
Attendance: Students must attend all classes on a given day to participate in after-school events or practices. If a student has a doctor's appointment during the day, they must return to school with an official doctor’s note to be cleared for practice or activities.
Academic Standards: Students must be enrolled full-time, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, and have no more than one failing grade. Grade checks will take place every 3–4 weeks throughout each season.
🤝 Extracurricular Code of Conduct
We expect our student participants to hold themselves to the highest standards across three key areas:
Classroom: Arrive on time, stay in class, maintain passing grades, respect teachers and peers, and take responsibility for missed work during early dismissals for travel.
Practice: Arrive on time, follow directions, respect teammates, and care for equipment and facilities.
Games & Travel: Follow school rules during transport, represent our high school positively, and show respect to officials, opponents, and host facilities.
