Black History Month Spotlight:
Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall was a groundbreaking American lawyer and the first African American justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Born on July 2, 1908, in Baltimore, Maryland, Marshall was passionate about justice from a young age. He earned his law degree from Howard University and quickly rose to prominence by arguing landmark civil rights cases, most notably Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which led to the desegregation of public schools.
Marshall served as the NAACP's chief counsel, where he won 29 out of 32 cases before the Supreme Court. In 1967, he was appointed to the Supreme Court, where he served until his retirement in 1991. Known for his dedication to civil rights and equality, Marshall's legacy continues to inspire the fight for justice and social change.
Bessie Coleman
Coleman became a popular figure in the U.S., known for her daring aerial stunts and advocacy for African American women in aviation. She broke barriers in a male-dominated field, inspiring future generations of aviators. Tragically, Coleman died in a plane crash during a promotional event in 1926, but her legacy continues to inspire the pursuit of aviation by women and people of color.

TheTexas State Assessment, known as STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness), is an annual standardized test for students in grades 3 through 12. It measures their knowledge and skills in core subjects like reading, math, science, and social studies. The results help evaluate student progress and determine whether they meet the state’s educational standards. It's an important tool for ensuring that students are on track for success in their academic journey.

Focus for 5th Marking Period
Dear Parents,
As we move through the 5th grading period, we are placing a strong focus on intervention and preparation for the upcoming STAAR assessments. We understand that this time can feel challenging for both students and families, but please know that we are here to support your child every step of the way.
This period is incredibly important for reinforcing the key skills and strategies that students need to succeed on the STAAR test. That’s why attendance and being on time are so critical right now. Every lesson and every moment spent in class makes a difference in helping students feel confident and prepared. We truly believe that the more consistent your child’s participation is, the more successful they will be in this important phase of their academic journey.
We know that each student is unique, and we are committed to offering individualized support to meet their specific needs. We encourage you to stay actively involved in this process by checking in with your child, supporting their learning at home, and reaching out to us if you have any concerns. It’s essential that we all work together to guide students toward success.
We understand that balancing schoolwork with everything else in life can be challenging, but your support and encouragement during this time will have a profound impact on your child’s confidence and performance. Please know that we are here for you and your child, and we will continue to provide the guidance and resources necessary to help them succeed.
Thank you for your continued partnership in this important time of preparation. Together, we can help your child achieve their best and feel ready for the STAAR test.
With appreciation,
