Olympic Middle School

Week of 10/5-10/9

OlympicMiddle SchoolWeek of 10/5-10/9

Welcome to October, Olympic families! From reading challenges to athletics and student leadership, our Eagles have many opportunities to learn, connect, and SOAR this month.

Our Chocolate Fundraiser Is Off to a Sweet Start!

Boxes are heading home, and students are excited! Thank you to our PTSO volunteers and families for the time and support you are contributing to this fundraiser. Your efforts help enhance the experiences we provide for students at Olympic.

Chocolate sales continue through October 14. Please remember that students need a signed permission slip to check out a box. Chocolate must remain in lockers until dismissal, and selling at school or on the bus is not allowed. Please supervise sales—students should not sell alone or go door to door.

We Love BOOOOOks!

A huge shout-out to the students and families who completed September’s reading challenge! We are tallying participation rates and will announce winning classes next week.

Keep the momentum going with our purple “We Love BOOOOOks” October reading challenge! Check in with your student about what they are reading, help them find a regular time to read, and sign their reading calendar. A few minutes together can build both reading habits and meaningful connections.

Our Eagles in Action 🏐🏈

Our girls volleyball and boys flag football teams continue to represent OMS with good sportsmanship and Eagle skills!

  • Monday and Friday: Practices after school.

  • Tuesday, October 6: Volleyball and flag football away at Pioneer Middle School, 3:30–4:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, October 8: Flag football at home against Mason County Christian School on the OMS field, 3:30–4:30 p.m.

Coaches will continue sharing transportation details and player information. Students must attend school that day to participate. Students attending home games as spectators must go home first and return with an adult.

Tuesday (10/6) is our annual vision and hearing screenings for 5th grade with the Lions Club.

Wednesday Half Day—Dismissal at 11:30

Wednesday, October 7, is our first half day of the school year. School dismisses at 11:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly for transportation and afternoon care. It will be an A day, with fifth graders attending exploratory classes. We will also gather for an all-school assembly to hear speeches from our sixth-grade ASB officer candidates. We look forward to seeing students step forward as leaders!

Toys Stay Home: We Need Your Partnership

Beginning Monday, October 5, we are giving renewed schoolwide attention to an expectation already outlined in our handbook: personal toys, fidgets, stuffies, squishies, and slime stay at home.

These items have caused classroom distractions, spills and messes, lost belongings, and conflicts over items being taken. Some have also been thrown or used to hit others. Keeping them at home protects learning and safety for everyone.

Please help by:

  • Checking backpacks and leaving personal toys at home.

  • Talking with your student about the expectation.

  • Encouraging your student to ask their teacher for help if they need support focusing.

School-approved fidgets included in a student’s IEP or 504 plan remain allowed and will be used according to the plan. Staff will teach a short SEL lesson and reinforce this expectation consistently.

Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Thank you for helping us make October a month of strong routines, joyful learning, and growing independence!
