A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Families,

This is the first newsletter of the year!!! I am knocking on wood but we had an incredible school opening. The children have made a beautiful transition, they are prepared every day and the smiles are abundant. I am close to knowing the name of every new student (including preschool, PreK and K) and find joy in talking to them every day. We feel as though they have completed us:). New students and staff are adjusting beautifully and...the sun is still shining. I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for sending your child(ren) back to school with a positive attitude and everything they need to be successful. This school start has been magical!

On a side note, I will put the PTA news, the SAU Sensation and the RJH newsletter in this communication each week if you want to have a "one stop" shop for information!

IMPORTANT NOTE!:

The code for the BUS APP (First View) to track the buses is TWRG!

Attendance Policy Attendance Policy

zoom_out_map

Recently, the Rye School Board updated policy JH: Attendance, Absenteeism, and Truancy. Please review the updated policy, which outlines how absences will be recorded in PowerSchool. In general, only medical reasons will be considered an excused absence, and other circumstances will be considered unexcused absences. This allows the schools to keep more accurate records of absence data, which helps us support students who are struggling with attendance.

Cynthia Merrill: Book Lover Extraordinaire!

We have been working with a consultant who is supporting our teachers in enriching the read aloud and book loving experience for our students. Cynthia conducted some professional development with our staff in August and will be coming back for an entire day for each grade level to plan with each grade level ways in which we can maximize student voice and support our students in their LOVE of words and books!

Welcome Back!

Thank you to the teachers for working so hard setting up their learning spaces and getting our school ready for the children. We also want to send a huge shout out to our facilities and custodial staff for getting the building ready. We love the smiles on our students' faces but it also helps that we have the friendliest and happiest staff around!

Teacher Olympics

We wanted to give you a backstage pass to what we do BEFORE the students arrive. This year we held the teacher Olympics, engaging in events such as speed snack eating, pencil sharpening and rolling chair races. We spend these initial days coming back together and enjoying the time as a community before the students come, training, preparing but also having fun. This job for all of us is such a joy and some of that comes from the family we build as a staff.
