Issue #37: May 16, 2025
Principal Corner
Good morning, Chapelfield families.
It was so great to see so many families and students at the carnival last week! Thank you to everyone that volunteered to make it a success especially our PTO members! We cannot pull off a big event without your endless support.
Next week is busy. Make sure to check in on your child to set them up for success. Sticking to a normal bedtime routine and limiting screen time can help cut down on big emotions and behaviors. We want to end the year on a positive note. Together if we work hard to stick to routines, we will get to enjoy the last few moments of learning as a community.
Get some rest this weekend!
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

Dear Families,
As the school year ends, take a few moments to connect with your child using these simple conversation starters.
“What’s something you’re really proud of from this year?”
“What will you miss most about school?”
“Is there anything you’re nervous or unsure about for next year?”
“What are you most excited to do this summer?”
“Who is someone who helped you this year, and how did they make a difference?
These talking points can help your children reflect, process emotions, and feel supported during this transition.
GRIN provides weekend snack bags to be sent home on Fridays for families in need. If this is something you would be interested in, please email me at jasink@gjps.org.
If you have a social, emotional concern for your child that impacts them while they are at school and would like to share this with me to see how we can help support your child, please reach out to me at jasink@gjps.org.
Best,
Krysten Jasin - School Counselor

Art Updates from Mrs. Karr
Kindergarten and first grade read the book Beautiful Oops! and talked about how our perceived mistakes can be transformed into something beautiful. Next, students used scrap papers and reimagined them into a “Beautiful Oops.” We also learned how to use letters like “U” and “I” to make a tulip. We talked about how important it is to remember that when our art looks different, it’s called “Style!” and when we add unique details it’s called “Creativity!”
Second graders recently completed their coil plaques and applied an oil pastel and paint resist finish. We are finishing up the year with drawing games and choice time where students will have time to explore art mediums of their choice while having fun using all we’ve learned this year.
Third graders finished their coil pots with colorful glazes. I’ve been very impressed with their persistence through a longer ceramic project at this point in the year! Their hard work paid off as they now have a special ceramic pot to enjoy for many years to come.
This month, fourth and fifth graders learned about the Japanese art of braiding called Kumihimo. Using 7 strings and a circular template, students created intricate cords that they are proudly wearing as bracelets, necklaces, and zipper pulls. The process of Kumihimo is calming and has been an enjoyable way to end the year!

Visitors
We kindly ask that ALL visitors follow the steps below each and every time you visit Chapelfield:
1. Once at the front, exterior doors of the school, press the buzzer. A member of the office staff will ask your reason for visiting Chapelfield.
2. Once inside the vestibule, you will enter your drivers' license or state ID into the scanner. ALL visitors/guests/guardians need to scan their drivers license EACH and EVERY time they visit Chapelfield.
3. Once your license has been scanned and processed you will be permitted to enter the main office area to pick up your visitor/volunteer badge.
4. If you have NEVER had your driver's licensed scanned at Chapelfield before, this will take a longer time. You will want to plan accordingly.
**As a reminder, if there is a non-guardian planning to visit Chapelfield for any reason (to eat lunch, read a book in the classroom, visit the bookfair, take your child to an appointment etc.), we ask that the guardian email the teacher and front office (gilzows@gjps.org ) to let us know prior to the visit.
Our Vestibule
The vestibule will be a place you have to wait if you are picking up a student, dropping off a book bag or lunch box.
The office is a busy place and there are times that we are dealing with student confidential issues. The vestibule will be a place to wait. It also allows us to keep our building safe. We want to keep students and staff safe including keeping confidential information safe. Thank you for understanding.
Thank you PTO for a successful carnival!
