An Update from the Principals

Good Afternoon Fairview Families,

We had a very exciting week here at Fairview, filled with many opportunities to collaborate as a school community!

On Tuesday and Thursday of this week we watched beautiful spring performances from our Kindergarten and First Grade students. These music concerts brought smiles to many faces earlier this week. We loved welcoming parents, grandparents, and other special guests into the auditorium this week. Thank you to Mr. Clift, K-5 General Music Teacher, for making these possible! We're so proud of our students for all of the hard work they put into learning the songs and movements that were showcased during these performances. You will find a few photos below of our students!

Thanks to those of you who were able to attend the Fairview Family STEM Night! It was an engaging evening where families, students and staff came together to build, explore, play and learn. A special thanks to Mr. Layes, our Fairview Technology Team, and student and staff volunteers for making this event possible. Please enjoy the pictures below from last night's event!

During Wednesday's Fairview Family Engagement Meeting, Mr. Conner, Ms. Toni, and Mrs. Shedroff hosted an informational session on the SPINOUT Program. Here is a copy of the presentation. If you have additional follow-up questions for the team, please feel free to reach out to our team. Contact information can be found in the presentation above. Thanks to these staff members for creating such a thorough presentation for our school community to view.

Today, our 7th-grade students participated in the Operation Snowflake program throughout the entire school day. This annual program provides students opportunities to continue to develop positive and meaningful relationships with one another and the trusted adults in our building. Students participated in full-group teambuilding activities, multiple small group discussions, and watched an educational but quite entertaining performance from Imagination Theater, a theater group that performs for school-aged children with a focus on enhancing well-being, and creating a more civil and safe society. Thank you to Ms. Klein, Ms. Laverdiere, Mrs. LiRosi, and Ms. McKinney for organizing a great day and to PTA for sponsoring the event!

Be sure to read below for other important updates and community events that are approaching, and Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating today.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. Larkin and Mr. Lopatka

Ability Awareness Week at Fairview!

Next week we will be celebrating Ability Awareness. The goal is to educate and raise awareness about inclusion and address the barriers that people with different disabilities or as we like to say, abilities, face day to day. Everyone has the right to have equal access to opportunities in all aspects of life. We will recognize a different ability each day and celebrate by wearing the color that represents acceptance and awareness of that particular ability. Each day during the morning announcements we will share about a famous person who has that particular ability and explain the ability in a developmentally appropriate manner through videos and stories. You can access the weekly calendar here. Please take some time at home to speak with your children about what they have learned and help them understand the importance of acceptance and inclusion.

What is the Falcon S.E.A.C?

The Falcon Student Equity Advisory is a committee that includes 7th and 8th grade students and the Fairview administration team. The committee will represent the student body by gathering information from students and sharing it with administration, Fairview’s Superintendent and on occasion, the Fairview School Board. SEAC members will be encouraged to discuss Fairview’s strengths and weaknesses surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion topics. Discussion will frequently pertain to the areas of improvement and setting goals for our building, assisting to promote a positive Falcon spirit and fostering a true sense of school wide unity.

Fairview Math Tournament!

Each school year, members of the Fairview staff organize a Fairview Math Tournament for students to display what they have learned in the school year. The tournament is offered to students in grades 4-6. Please see the links below for more information.

Updates from the PTA

Registration for the Fairview South 2023-2024 school year has officially begun. When you are on the "Agreements" page, the final question is how the PTA determines who we can or cannot send communication to and who we can or cannot include in our Directory.

If you would like to continue to receive PTA Communication such as the PTA Newsletter, PTA event reminders, and other messages, please remember to select 'yes' during registration. Selecting 'yes', will also permit us to include your family's information in the PTA Directory. Please be sure to select 'yes' for each child, to assure that each one is listed in the directory.

If you do not wish to receive communications from the PTA, and you do not wish to be included in the PTA Directory, please select 'no'

Please see screenshot below for reference.

Book Fair Update From the PTA!

Fairview D72 Spring 2023 Book Fair

One of our favorite PTA events is upon us! The Fairview South Book Fair is coming up! The 2023 Book Fair will ONLY be available virtually. This is simply due to ongoing renovations at Fairview. By next school year, we will all be able to enjoy that amazing feeling of buying fresh books in person for our kids.. and maybe even an eraser & a kitten poster!

For the 2022/2023 school year, we will be using Anderson’s Book Fair Company. Also known as “ABC”. They are graciously still providing a virtual option, which is super helpful for our community this year! The Fair will be open for business from April 17th, and will run through April 28th. This will allow you to browse and purchase at your leisure. We know that many families love to contribute to their child’s classroom libraries by purchasing books for your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Thankfully, ABC does offer “Teacher Wish Lists” online! This feature is easily accessible via the ABC link below.

Feel free to take a look before the Fair begins. ABC link: www.abcfairs.com

**Our Book Fair starts on April 17th!

**Books can be purchased and either delivered to your child(ren)’s

classroom(s) or to your personal address.

**All proceeds will go directly to the Fairview library.

Happy Reading!

Multicultural Night 2023!

Multicultural Night is one month away! We are looking forward to celebrating the diversity that makes Fairview South so special. Please join us on Friday, May 12th from 6-8pm in the Big Gym.

There are multiple ways to participate. You can create a table display. You can bring food to share. You can perform. You can dress in clothes that represents your country/culture and take a picture with others (new this year). You can show up and enjoy the evening. Or, you can do a combination of these.

Please take a moment to fill out the Google Forms Survey to help us. The more information we have, the better prepared we can be. This includes having an estimate of how many people will be at the event, whether you are choosing 1 or all 5 options. Please fill out the survey by Friday, May 5th.

Once the survey is submitted, you should receive an email confirming your responses.

If you have any questions, please email Kejal and Steve at:
