Focus on STUDENT LEARNING

We have a busy week in the Tiger Den this week. First, we welcome back Loricia Martin to our 4th and 5th-grade math position. We also welcome two new daytime tutors: Cathy Oswald and Shiloh Currin, and our new long-term 3rd-grade substitute Courtney Peace. The focus for March is on Student Learning. Families can help by ensuring that their children arrive at school on time each day, complete all assignments, and practice reading each night.

Monday, we kick off the Kids Heart Challenge in a partnership between PE and the American Heart Association. Join us Monday evening for a free family event called Read Across VCS from 5-7 pm at VCHS. Tuesday is an asynchronous learning day for students at home. Student work will be communicated through Google Classroom (K-5) or via take-home packets (PreK). Please communicate with your child's teacher if unsure of the assignments. Finally, Nurse Sanford reminds Grades 3-5 students to return the Dental Clinic forms by Friday.

Community Read Aloud at Perry Memorial Library

New program on Mondays from 5:30pm-6:15pm, starting January 22nd. It is called "Community Read Aloud" and the idea is that youth will have a chance to read to a volunteer with the National Honor Society Students from the Vance County Early College High School. There is no registration required but folks can let me know they are coming by emailing mpeters@perrylibrary.org. We are hoping to foster the love of reading and support an encouraging environment for learning and reading out loud as everyone gets a chance to listen to themselves and others read.
