Hoover Elementary School News
October 2026
October is a busy month!
We have a new piece of equipment on the playground. This is a communication board that was funded by the Lion Foundation. This will allow our students using communication devices to engage and play with their peers! The photo to the right shows some of our students jumping right in using it to play with friends during recess!
Teachers have completed the beginning of the year Acadience Reading and Math assessments. These assessments help teachers evaluate student performance and identify areas for improvement. They help teachers monitor student progress, identify students who need extra support, prevent reading and math difficulties, and improve student outcomes. Teachers will be sending home your child's score report over the next few weeks along with a letter explaining these scores. Remember, this assessment is just one of the many tools we use to monitor student progress. If you have a question about the assessment, please contact your child's teacher.
We have many exciting things happening at Hoover this month! We have several assemblies, Picture Day, the annual Walk/Bike to School event, a Reading Festival, Unity Day, Roar store shopping days, the Hoover Fun Run, and our Fall Festival celebrations. Check out more information about these special events below.
It's looking to be a pretty exciting month for our students. Happy Fall!

Picture Day is coming
Walk/Bike to School 2026
Families are invited to meet at Willow Park for our annual Walk/Bike to School Event on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:45 AM. There will be road closures surrounding the park (see map below), so please be mindful of this if you plan to drive to the park to meet up with classmates before walking to school. There will be CHSD staff wearing safety vests in and around the park to assist families with getting to the Willow Park gazebo. Officer Capers will say a few words about this annual event and being safe while walking/biking to school. Then we will walk to school together. For families unable to participate, there will be staff hanging back at the school to assist students arriving at the regular drop off time of 8:15 AM.
Safety & Security
Nothing is more paramount to our mission than the safety and well-being of our staff and students.
Each school year Districts are required by State code to conduct routine drills of emergency procedures (i.e. fire drills, weather-related emergency drills, intruder drills, lockdown drills, etc.). These exercises provide students and staff with practice in knowing the best ways to conduct themselves in the event of an actual emergency. Students are taught the procedures for all drills at the beginning of the year, and they are regularly reviewed. We began these drills this first week of school.
We continue to make safety a priority. Camp Hill School District was recognized as an ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) certified organization. ALICE trains staff and students by using options-based and scenario-dependent strategies to prepare them to better address an actual threat should one present itself. ALICE is a nationwide best practice that we firmly believe is essential to enhance the safety and security of our students. All faculty and staff have now been trained in these principles. Over the next few weeks, we will begin to share these concepts with our students using the age-appropriate ALICE curriculum. While it is unsettling to think about dangerous situations happening in our schools, just as with fire drills, frequent review and practice of emergency procedures will help us all be better prepared in case of an incident in our District. We encourage you to talk with your child about these strategies to further process their learning.
Camp Hill School District remains committed to a comprehensive approach to increasing the safety and security of everyone in our buildings and the well-being of our students. These steps help produce an atmosphere where they can learn, thrive, and become their best selves. Thanks for your support in this critical issue.
