As we prepare for another exciting school year, we know that returning to school brings a mix of emotions. For some children, it's an exciting time filled with anticipation and new opportunities. For others, it may bring feelings of uncertainty or nervousness—and that's completely normal.

Over the next few editions of the Ray Report, we'll be sharing helpful articles, tips, and resources designed to support students and families as they transition into the new school year. Our goal is to provide practical strategies to help every child feel confident, connected, and ready for a successful start.

We look forward to partnering with you to make this school year a positive experience for every student!

Summertime Screen Time - Click here for more information and links

Summer Screen Time

Think “summer fun” and you might picture swimming, hiking, or barbecues. But we suspect that more than a few kids would be picturing extra time to play Minecraft or perfect their TikTok dance moves. When school’s out, loosening the rules for screen time might seem only fair. But no rules won’t work either. And how can you avoid daily battles over how much is too much?

This week we’re offering strategies for summer screen time rules that offer kids more freedom to play games or connect with friends online without encroaching on basic things they need to do to be healthy. The start of the summer is a good opportunity to assess your kids’ tech use, identify the risks you want to avoid, and make a practical plan. We also take a closer look at screens and neurodivergent kids — including those who have autism, ADHD or a learning disorder — who can get a lot of benefit from online engagement and at the same time be more vulnerable to addictive or unsafe behaviors. We address the thorny question of when kids are ready for social media. And more generally, we discuss how to create structure for the summer that makes kids feel comfortable, ways to get kids to spend more time outdoors, and how building chores into kids’ lives helps teach them responsibility and feel the value of contributing to the family.
