A Great First Week at Primary!

Primary Families -

What a fantastic first week of school! It’s been wonderful to see so many smiles, new friendships forming, and students eagerly learning their new routines. Our staff has been working hard to make sure each child feels welcomed and supported, and the energy throughout the building has been so positive.

At Primary School, we know how deeply our families care for their children, and we take safety very seriously. September is Safety Month, and we will be focusing on how to stay safe in various situations because every student is special and loved. We focused on bus safety this week and fire safety is next week.

We look forward to a great year ahead, filled with learning, growth, and friendships!

Have a great weekend,

Amy Grice, Principal

Arrival/Dismissal Updates

Students have done an excellent job with arrival and dismissal. Buses have been very close to regular dismissal times in the afternoon. Teachers will review and practice these procedures with students, but for your information, here is how students will enter the building in the morning:

  • Walkers - Door 1 front entry

  • K/1 bus students who will eat breakfast - Door 1 front entry (starting next week)

  • K/1 bus students not eating breakfast - Door 2 by Kindergarten

  • Drop-off - Door 10 in the back

  • Preschool coming by bus - Door 16 by preschool wing

  • Preschool morning parent drop-off - Door 15

Drop-off and Pick-up:

Our parent pick-up and drop-off line has been running very smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation! We appreciate everyone remembering to display your visor number each day, as well as being mindful not to wait in front of our neighbors’ driveways. Your support helps keep the process safe, efficient, and respectful for everyone.

Here is a review of the procedures -

  1. Drop-off & Pick-up Procedure Document
  2. Video detailing the procedure with maps and pictures (7 minutes)

Bus Safety

As we begin the school year, our primary students are learning important bus safety rules to ensure safe and enjoyable rides. These rules include keeping their body calm and inside the bus, staying seated and facing forward, and listening to and following directions from the bus driver. Please help reinforce these safety guidelines at home by discussing them with your child and encourage safety!

Fire Safety

Our safety focus for next week will be fire safety. To kick things off, we will be holding our first fire drill next week, giving students the chance to practice safe and calm evacuation procedures. We are required to have 5 fire drills throughout the school year to practice safety. This is a great opportunity to remind your child about the importance of fire safety at school and at home.

Family Resources & Support

We are fortunate to have a caring community that helps support our students and families. Through generous donations from the Knights of Columbus and other local community businesses and groups, we have a variety of resources available for families who may need a little extra support. Resources may include weekend food through our Backpack Program, winter gear, clothing, school supplies, personal care items, information about local food resources, and more.

If any of these resources would be helpful for your family, please complete THIS GOOGLE FORM. Participation is completely optional, and all requests are kept confidential. Once you submit the form, a member of our team will connect with you.

A Quick Note About Milk and Lunch

We wanted to share a quick clarification about milk purchases at school:

Students eating a school lunch:
Milk is included with the meal at no additional cost.

Students bringing lunch from home:
If your child would like to purchase a milk to go with their home lunch, the cost is $0.60 and will be charged to their meal account.

We know this can be a little confusing! The free meal program covers milk when it is part of a complete school meal, but milk taken separately is considered an individual purchase.
