On Tuesday, February 27, 2024 we celebrated Dominican's Republic Independence day, with a Faceless Doll workshop hosted by the North Shore CDC. Salem Prep Students were tasked to design faceless dolls, a tradition in the Dominican Republic, choosing their own colors and messaging to be presented in class. The faceless doll represents women in the many walks of life in the Dominican Republic, since 1985, the faceless doll has become a symbol of Dominican culture.

We also had delicious pastellitos, made fresh by a Dominican community member and had original soda brand from the Dominican Republic- Country Club Soda.

The National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2024 celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.

Women from every background have long realized that an uneven playing field will never bring equality or justice. Many feel the critical need to speak up and work harder for fairness in our institutions and social interactions.
