From the Desk of the Librarian
Greetings from the library! Supposedly summer is on the way. I have a hard time believing that with the weather we’ve been having. But because the calendar says so, I have faith that it is coming. That makes me think of summer reading. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to take advantage of local libraries to read, read, read. If you enjoy competition, join their reading challenges. I remember doing this as a kid. I would come home with a stack of books every time I visited our local library. In lieu of that, I went ahead and previewed some upcoming summer challenges for you.
1) North Dakota State Library: Unearth a Story. Running from May 1-August 31, 2026. Right now the website says to log the books you read. I am sure more information will be posted. There are more reading challenges for all ages. See this website for more information: https://www.library.nd.gov/programs
2) Bismarck Veterans Library: It looks like they do all their reading challenges via an app called Beanstack. You download the app and discover reading challenges for all ages through that. Record your reading and earn the prizes within the app, too. Click here for more information: https://www.bismarcklibrary.org/2275/Reading-Challenges
3) Washburn Public Library: I have not heard about a summer reading challenge yet from the Washburn Public Library. But don’t let that stop you from going over there to check out books and maybe find out if they is a reading challenge.
4) Bookmobile: The McLean-Mercer Bookmobile will be stopping once per month over the summer. Watch the Wilton School website for the dates. If you do not have a library card with them, simply stop in one day when they are here and ask for one. It is that easy to begin your reading adventure with them.
5) Wilton Senior Center Library: Last but certainly not least, don’t forget about our little library downtown in the Pioneer Senior Center. Newly started last year, it is a great resource for summer reading. Please stop in and see what they have to offer.
I plan to spend a lot of time at the school this summer since I didn’t get to do so last summer. If you really need a book, get a hold of me and I will what I can do to help you. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and find the time to truly rest, relax and read.
Sincerely,
Heidi Quinn
