Letter from the Superintendent Letter from the Superintendent

Good day, OUSD families and caregivers,

It's hard to believe we've already completed the eighth day of the 2025-26 school year. I sincerely hope your child is having a great experience. Our theme this year is "Imagining the Possibilities: Advancing with EDGE," and each day our educators have the opportunity to create engaging learning experiences for our scholars. We are honored to offer this possibility to over 24,000 children this year.

I am pleased to share that our high schools are seeing steady or increased enrollment. This past summer, we completed a variety of facility upgrades at thirty of our schools and will continue to do so. Additionally, our high schools are completing the final phase of their Measure S modernization projects. Our students and staff thank you for your ongoing support.

We are also excited to continue to support scholars at every stage of their educational journey. Our preschool programs give children a joyful first school experience, and our transitional kindergarten (TK) classrooms continue to build that strong foundation. This year, we have nearly 950 TK students across our district—a wonderful opportunity to inspire curiosity and growth in some of our youngest learners. Thanks to additional funding from the California Department of Education, we are also expanding our after-school programs to serve even more families with engaging enrichment opportunities. And the journey doesn’t stop there—OUSD continues to shine at the high school level. Canyon, El Modena, and Villa Park High Schools have each earned recognition for the sixth consecutive year as U.S. News Best High Schools. From preschool to high school and beyond, the possibilities in OUSD are truly endless!

As an educational institution, it is our moral responsibility to protect and support all of our children. We have strengthened our internal protocols and reviewed existing policies to ensure all of our families feel safe and welcome in our schools. We are also refining our website to offer resources for families who may be facing financial hardships, navigating immigration status, or experiencing other difficult life circumstances. Please visit our website to learn more and share these resources with your community. Additionally, we have updated our school websites to include information on how we coordinate resources and train staff on safety protocols. I encourage you to review your child's school webpage to understand the specific procedures.

As your new superintendent, I am committed to uncovering the many possibilities that exist in OUSD. We have strong educational opportunities, competitive athletic programs, and dedicated staff who love the work they do. As I continue my listening and learning journey, I will keep you updated on what I am learning and the possibilities I observe. Together, we will transform OUSD into the premier school district in Orange County!

Respectfully,

Rachel H. Monárrez, PhD
Superintendent of Schools

You’re Invited to Celebrate the Best of Orange Unified!

You are cordially invited to attend the annual Celebration of Schools on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Villa Park High School Performing Arts Center. This year’s event, themed “Pathways to Possibilities,” will highlight the exceptional educational programs, resources, and achievements across all levels of learning within the Orange Unified School District.

Orange Unified Public Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities and promoting equity for the students of Orange Unified.

OUPSF has already awarded more than $150,000 in classroom and teacher grants; provided significant support to our visual and performing arts programs; funded up-to-date wellness resources in every school; and enhanced athletics programs across all high schools in the district.

OUPSF’s efforts include:

  • Teacher and classroom grants ($250–$1,000) that bring innovative projects to life.
  • Expanded access to arts education opportunities districtwide.
  • Mental health and wellness programs tailored to student needs.
  • Strengthening sports and extracurricular activities that foster teamwork, discipline, and personal growth.
