e-Tips for the family
Attendance matters to your teen's future.
For a strong start this year, make it clear that you expect your teen to attend and participate in every class. Your teen may think cutting class is just a way to get out of some work. Explain that cutting class can also cut your teen off from future opportunities. Unexcused absences may be included on students' permanent records, for upper-level programs, colleges and prospective employers to see.
For more information, follow this link.
Review rules and expectations for the year.
For a safe and productive school year, talk with your teen now about why rules matter. Review the school rules together. Make it clear that you expect your teen to follow them. If you are changing your house rules to accommodate new schedules or situations, review those, too. When families establish rules and boundaries, teens are less likely to engage in risky behavior.
