Hello Lincoln Community,

We hope you adjusted well to the time change last weekend. It made for early mornings this week, but more daylight in the evenings. Spring is getting close and with it we have student-led conferences coming soon and Spring Break right after that. Remember, next week is a two-day student week and then our students will return on Monday, March 31.

Spring Conferences are Next Week: On Wednesday and Thursday next week we'll be meeting with parents for our spring student-led conferences. These are great opportunities to celebrate individual student learning progress, learn about strengths and growth areas, and partner together in-person with parents, students, and teachers. The conference dates are Wednesday and Thursday, March 19 and 20. When you're here at Lincoln, please stop by the library to see our Book Fair.

Music Performance: Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our evening music performance this week. Our 4th graders kicked off the evening with five songs, including Cheki Morena. Then our 5th graders sang four songs of their own, culminating with De Colores. Finally, our Lincoln choir showed what they've been working on throughout the year by doing three songs of their own, including Cantar. We've included a few pictures of the evening below.

Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org.

Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Pedestrian Safety Tips When Coming To School and Going Home

Multiple times each year we instruct and remind our students about safety on buses and during the arrival and dismissal process. We also stress the importance of being careful and safe when traveling to and from school and any time when we're out in the community. Here are some of the important points to keep in mind.

  • Walking: Using identified walking paths, obeying all traffic laws/signals, being aware of surroundings, wearing clothes that make you easily seen by cars, share your walking path with your parents so they know, keep eyes and ears open.
  • Biking: Making sure bike is correctly functioning as intended (brakes, reflectors, etc.), make sure you have proper safety gear, obey all traffic laws/signals, be aware of your surroundings, wear clothes that make you easily visible, keep eyes and ears open, use lighting at night, share your path with your parents so they know.
  • Rail Safety: Only cross at designated areas, keep eyes and ears open, be aware of your surroundings, follow all traffic laws/signals.

When Picking Up Your Student(s)

Please follow our designated traffic patterns. Here are some guidelines:

  1. Unless you're in an actual parking spot, be sure to stay in your vehicle.
  2. Similar to at an airport, we can't have unattended vehicles in the driving lanes (this includes the French Prairie MS parking lot too).
  3. Follow staff directions.
  4. Pull up to the forward-most pick up spot.
  5. Take care to always be vigilant when pulling out after picking up your student.

From the Woodburn School District

We want to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every student, family, and staff member in Woodburn School District feels safe and welcomed in our schools. We recognize that concerns about immigration policies and enforcement can create stress and fear for many in our community, and we want to assure you that our schools remain a place of safety, learning, and inclusion for all.

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance

zoom_out_map

This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.

Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!

So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
