Parent Liaison Corner
Remember, YOU are your child's greatest cheerleader!
What does a Parent Liaison do?
A School Parent Liaison serves as a communication link between home and school. They welcome and orient families to the schools and familiarize the families with the school's culture, policies, procedures, and practices. The primary role of the School Parent Liaison is to empower parents to become active participants in the education of their children to ensure their child's academic and social success in school.
How can I support you?
- Encourage open communication between you and school personnel.
- Explain the process of conferences and school meetings.
- Explain school policies, practices, and programs.
- Provide information about school goals, resources, and activities.
- Provide various communication platforms that engage families:
- Parent Vue
- School Status (supports multiple languages translations)
- School Newsletter
- School Website

Purpose Powered by People
As a non-profit, we love thanking people like our wonderful donors and volunteers, as well as showing appreciation for the families, schools, educators, and youth we serve. Yet there is another amazing group of people that deserves so much gratitude. This month, I’m shining a light on the people that power our mission, day in and day out: the educators making STEM accessible at the Lab and in the community, and the professionals working just as hard behind the scenes. Our staff put so much heart into their work—it is truly extraordinary! Whether it is coming up with the most creative way to share community impact or a new program, designing curriculum that leans into failure as an essential part of the scientific method and engineering design process, advocating for transit to make it easier to reach the science center, or the essential work of keeping our finances, spaces, databases, and systems in order, they consistently give it their all. I am the lucky person that gets to witness the countless ways our staff lift up our mission each day...and it is a beautiful view.

Winter Event Silent Auction Donations Needed!
Our Winter Event is Friday, December 11, and it’s one of Alvey’s biggest—and most loved—community events of the year!
This year, we’re adding an online Silent Auction designed to bring the entire community into the fun. Family, friends, neighbors, local businesses, DVCC members, and others will be able to browse and bid—even if they aren’t able to attend the Winter Event in person.
Don’t worry—the exciting in-person raffle is staying! Our always-popular class baskets, student experiences, and other raffle favorites will still be part of the Winter Event. The new online Silent Auction will be a separate opportunity featuring special items, services, experiences, and packages donated by our greater community. Stay tuned for more information about our 2026 Winter Event.
We Need Your Help!
We are currently seeking donations for the Silent Auction, including:
Restaurant, spa, retail, entertainment, or other gift cards
Vacation stays at beach houses, mountain homes, lake houses, vacation rentals, or other getaway properties
Tickets to sporting events, concerts, attractions, or performances
Golf outings, memberships, lessons, camps, or classes
New Electronics
Professional services or experiences
Local business products and packages
Unique experiences or special opportunities
New merchandise or other auction-worthy items
Know a neighbor, family member, local business, or community organization that may be willing to donate? Please share this opportunity with them, too!
Donation Guidelines
To help us create the best possible auction, we kindly ask that:
Physical items be new and unused
Gift cards and certificates have a clearly stated value
Any expiration dates, blackout dates, restrictions, additional fees, or other limitations be disclosed when donated
Vacation property donations include the number of nights offered, general availability or blackout dates, maximum occupancy, and any fees the winning bidder would be responsible for
Donations include a brief description and estimated retail value
Donations be appropriate for a school and family community
Donation Deadline: October 23
Interested in donating or have an idea you’d like to discuss? Please email AlveyPTO@gmail.com.
Every donation—big or small—helps us create an incredible Winter Event while supporting our Alvey students, staff, and school community. 💙
Celebrate Your Sunray on the Alvey Marquee!
Birthdays, accomplishments, special milestones—celebrate your Sunray in a BIG way!
For just $25 per day, you can reserve a personalized Celebratory Marquee Message on the Alvey school sign.
There are only two celebration messages available per day, so popular dates and birthdays may fill quickly! All messages need to be purchased at least 2 weeks in advance.
Reserve your date online:

Candy Wars are Coming!
Help us make Trunk or Treat extra sweet! From October 13–22, we’re asking Alvey families to donate bags of candy or allergy-friendly treats to help us stock up for our Trunk or Treat celebration on Friday, October 23.
Students can bring donations right into school to give to their teacher— every bag makes a difference! The more we collect, the more treats we can share with our Alvey community. The class with the most candy/treats by weight will win $75 to spend on Amazon on class supplies, games, and more!
SAVE THE DATE: Trunk or Treat
Our Trunk or Treat Community Event is Friday, October 23, and we need your help to make it a fun night for everyone!
We’re looking for families to host a trunk and volunteers to help throughout the event. Hosting a trunk is a fun way to get creative, hand out treats, and be part of one of our favorite community celebrations.
5:30–6:00 PM: Low-Sensory Trunk or Treat
6:00–7:30 PM: Trunk or Treat for Everyone
Come hungry — we’ll have food trucks on site, too!
