Dear Monomoy Middle School Families,

Happy STEM week Monomoy! This week, we will be celebrating Mass STEM Week as a school. To celebrate, we will participate in a school-wide design challenge. The theme is "STEM Starts Now!" Each homeroom will be provided with a materials bag on Monday with the task of designing and creating a device that can assist in picking up and transporting trash to the trashcan without having to bend over. Homerooms will submit their designs on Friday to be judged during their lunch period. We will announce the winners at the end of the day on Friday. Thank you to Ms. Nyerick for planning our event and happy designing!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Unity Day Shout Out! Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in Unity Day this week. This was a great celebration of our community which concluded with an amazing whole school jazz performance with a guest appearance by Ms. Sarah Jane. See pictures below!

Shark Talk Newspaper: Click to access our school newspaper headed up by Ms. Hanna's seminar. This is always a great read and helps us to understand the perspective of our students!

STEM Week Judges: If you are interested in helping us judge the design products on Friday during lunch, please reach out to Ms. Jordan at jjordan@monomoy.edu.

Bus Reminder: If your child is taking a bus other than their own, we need to have permission from a parent or guardian. Without permission, we are not able to allow students on a different bus. Please use Pick Up Patrol as the easiest way to communicate these requests.

OLD NEWS AND REMINDERS!

Health Screenings: We will conduct state-mandated health screenings for all grade levels beginning the week of 10/18/24. 5th grade will receive vision and postural screenings, 6th-grade postural screenings, and 7th-grade height, weight, vision, hearing, and postural screenings. If parents would like to opt their child out of any or all screenings, please email or contact the school health office, kmonteiro@monomoy.edu or 508-945-5110, with their preference in writing by 10/16/24. The dates for screenings are 7th grade Oct 18 & Nov 18. 5th grade Oct 22 & Nov 12. 6th grade Dec 9

Community Events Simplified! In an effort to streamline how we share our community events and activities, moving forward you can simply include the attached graphic in your newsletters and link it to here: https://www.monomoy.edu/parent-caregiver-resources/community-events

Thrift Store Update! Monomoy Regional Middle School's math seminar has started a thrift store. The goal of the store is to normalize thrifting, teach sustainability, learn how to operate a store, and have fun! Every student will have the option to visit the thrift store with a ten point limit per quarter, which is on a preloaded card. No real money will be taken at the store. Please fill out the form linked here if you DO NOT want your student shopping at the thrift store.
