BCSD and the Cleveland Browns Team Up for Attendance Awareness Month BCSD and the Cleveland Browns Team Up for Attendance Awareness Month

For Berea City Schools, this school year marks a particularly exciting chapter as we join forces with the Cleveland Browns as part of the Stay in the Game Network, an initiative aimed at promoting regular school attendance. This collaboration promises to bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and a renewed focus on the importance of being present in the classroom.

One of the highlights of this partnership was an inspiring visit by Berea-Midpark High School football players and cheerleaders to our elementary schools. Their mission? To greet students as they arrived for their day and share the importance of good attendance. It's a small gesture with a big impact, fostering a sense of excitement about coming to school every day.

Throughout September, our students had opportunity to engage in various activities designed to promote regular attendance. These activities made learning even more fun and interactive.

Berea-Midpark Middle School's back-to-school bash, generously funded through donations from Grace Church and Berea-Midpark Middle School PTA, provided a fun-filled opportunity for students to join the Stay in the Game movement. Select students received a backpack courtesy of former Browns player Josh Dobbs and the ASTROrdinary Foundation.

Each of our elementary schools turned up the excitement with a spectacular At-TEN-dance party! Students celebrated attendance with a dance party at 10 a.m.! Together, we prioritized attendance, one dance step at a time!

As parents and guardians, you play a pivotal role in ensuring your child's success in school. Encourage your child to Stay in the Game, keep learning every day, and embrace the challenges that come their way. By doing so, they will be better prepared, empowered, and ready to shape their own future.

The Berea City School District (BCSD) is being recognized by the Ohio Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Network for its quality and fidelity of PBIS implementation.

All five BCSD schools have been designated as Model Schools for the 2022-2023 school year, earning Bronze recognition for their team-based planning and problem-solving to implement PBIS interventions and school supports.

Bronze-level schools can document evidence of a comprehensive system of behavioral supports at tier 1 with a Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) score of at least 70%.

PBIS involves teaching students expected behaviors consistently and positively, promoting good behavior, student success, and positive, safe environments through a multi-tiered system implemented by schools. PBIS has been shown to improve student achievement, student behavior, and school climate.

"This recognition highlights our dedication to serving our students. Our focus remains on creating environments that are conducive to learning and implementing a comprehensive system of tiered supports to ensure we meet the unique needs of each and every student," said Superintendent Tracy Wheeler.

As the district continues to foster positive and supportive educational environments, it reaffirms its commitment to the success and well-being of every student in the district.

New Teacher Academy Ignites Inspiration and Classroom Success New Teacher Academy Ignites Inspiration and Classroom Success

The purpose of the Berea City School District's New Teacher Academy is to help our newly hired educators develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to effectively teach and manage a classroom.

Our New Teacher Academy recently held a dynamic session on classroom management where our experienced teacher leaders shared their invaluable insights and strategies with our newest elementary teachers. Effective classroom management is crucial to successful teaching. New teachers learned strategies to maintain discipline, create a positive learning environment, and keep students engaged.

Along with hosting additional academy sessions, our teacher leaders will continue to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer ongoing support throughout our new teachers' initial years in the profession.

We all want our students to succeed, and by learning from these experienced teachers, our new teachers are better prepared to create a wonderful learning experience for the students they'll teach.

It's all about creating the best learning environment and educational experience for our students!

Brook Park Elementary's New Preschool Playground Celebration Brook Park Elementary's New Preschool Playground Celebration

The atmosphere at Brook Park Elementary School was one of uncontainable excitement as families and the community gathered to celebrate the opening of a brand-new playground for our preschoolers. Made possible through the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) grant, this playground promises to be filled with joy, laughter, and growth for our young learners.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a heartwarming event, filled with smiles, cheers, and and Titan pride. Parents, teachers, and community members celebrated the fun-filled occasion.

A special shoutout goes to the Titans Early Childhood PTA whose generosity made the evening even sweeter with popsicles for all. Their support and dedication to enhancing the educational experience of our youngest learners is truly appreciated.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us in celebrating. Let us continue to work together to create an environment where our children can thrive, learn, and play to their hearts' content. Here's to the bright future of our preschoolers and the wonderful memories they will make on their new playground!

community conversations with the board of education
zoom_out_map

The Berea Board of Education holds regular community conversations to give the public access to board members outside of the formal public participation setting of a meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns they may have with two board members during a 30 minute time-slot set aside prior to each regular scheduled Board of Education meeting. The goal of this effort is to more effectively connect with the public and learn more about the community.
