March 22-29, 2025

Good morning, Cannon Families,

Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and peaceful Spring Break! This year, like every year, has flown by! As we welcome spring and warmer temperatures, let us use our rejuvenated energy to finish the 2024-2025 school year STRONG!

At Cannon, we value "BIG" field trip, experiential learning to engage our scholars in meaningful and memorable learning experiences that will enhance their skills for a lifetime. Before starting their spring break, our 4th graders had an incredible journey to Austin and the Caverns, and had a STEMtastic time. Please help me give our fourth grade teachers and chaperones a big thank you for facilitating this great experience for our Cubs.

Do you have neighbors with children that are interested in joining our Cannon community? The Cannon Transfer Window will open tomorrow, Monday, March 24 and will remain open until April 21st. This will be the only transfer window for Kindergarten-fifth grade students to join our school for the 2025-2026 school year. Yes, Cannon is open for Kindergarten - 5th grade transfers to participate in our designated STEM school! Interested families should visit the district transfer website - https://www.gcisd.net/page/transfer-information

Before Spring Break, GCISD hosted our annual Special Olympics at Mustang Panther Stadium. One of our AMAZING Cannon Cubs participated and did a phenomenal job representing Cannon!

We are incredibly Cannon PROUD of this Cub, and hope to have more Cubs join in next year to show of their physical talents.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten and 1st grade STEM Habit of Mind Hall of Fame Inductees for Being Persistent! STEM teaching and learning is an instructional approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking, and we can't wait to celebrate our next group of inductees this Friday.

Beginning on March 10 and continuing monthly, families will receive an Absence Calendar. The purpose of these calendars is to update families on your child’s school attendance for the year. The report will include an attendance score, total number of absences, calendar of dates, and the type of absence recorded as well as a detailed absence breakdown. If your child is scoring in the red or orange, the campus has likely already been in contact regarding attendance. We will continue to reach out to discuss ways we can support your child as needed.

It's hard to believe, but we are in the final leg of the 2024-2025 school year! As we enter the end of year and STAAR testing season, we want all of our scholars to finish the year STRONG. Please help by making sure your Cub is at school on time each day, showing Cub PRIDE, and giving their full effort to show what they have learned this school year. If there are concerns regarding your scholars' attendance or academics, we will be in touch to discuss next steps.

As always, thank you for your parent partnership!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett

We want to recognize YOU!

Are you a Cannon parent that works in a STEM field? If so, we want to recognize you! Please take a moment to complete the following Google Form, and we will add you to our Cannon Parents in STEM Wall of Fame!
