Absences Absences

We made it through our Covid stretch at the beginning but are now smack dab in the middle of respiratory/RSV/flu season. If your child requires medication (Tylenol/ibuprofen) for a fever they are not allowed in school until they are fever free with no medication for 24 hours. Calling out sick is an excused absence.

Please call (508) 223-1563 or email Janice Johnston jjohnston@attleboroschools.com as well as send message to the teacher if your student is going to be out sick or due to vacation so we are able to mark that and save you from the automation :-) Please remember that if you are a community peer, 6 unexcused tardies and absences will result in a letter home and 20 could result in the removal from the program. Letters have already been going home to those who meet the criteria.

Research has shown that preK attendees had stronger literacy skills once they reached the first grade ( Haslip, 2018).

Veteran's Day Parade Veteran's Day Parade

Thank you to the parents, husband, and grandparents who took time out of their day to walk in our Veteran's Day Parade. Our students loved watching the Attleboro Police Department Honor Guard, the local VFW members, and our ELC family members walking with their students. They, along with Ms. Janice, especially loved seeing the service dog! We thank the following participants even those who at the last minute were unable to join festivities: Jumee Amorim, Joseph Cooper, Cathleen Mendes, Daniel Gennant, Marty Briggs, Justin Nicholson, Ralph Fevrier, Diane Andes, and David Harris. We thank you for your service for our country.

Classroom Spotlight: 102 Classroom Spotlight: 102

Miss Deanna: Miss Deanna started here at Thacher as a student (when it was a middle school), then returned to do student teaching, moved into an ELC Paraprofessional position right after, and into her own classroom a year later. She has been teaching here at ELC/Thacher since December 2007, as a preschool teacher or kindergarten teacher. Miss Deanna has been dreaming of being a teacher since 2nd grade, writing it in her journals about teaching young kids. The absolute JOY, HAPPINESS, and EXCITEMENT of the students make each minute of her day special. As the kids can tell you, her favorite color is YELLOW and she loves to say “FRI-YAY” on Fridays! She lives here in Attleboro with her husband Ben and their 3 kids (Koen, 10, Bekket, 6, and Danika, 4). She LOVES to watch movies with her family on Fri-yay nights, trying new yummy foods, and decorating for the holidays.

Miss Kelley: Miss Kelley has been with the Attleboro Public Schools for 18 years. 17 of those years were with the Abacus program and she is currently working as a para in room 102. Miss Kelley loves the laughs, sense of humor, and excitement of the kiddos. She has lived in Attleboro her whole 34 years of life and is currently raising 3 kids (Dario, 4, D’Mila, 6, and Juliana, 12) with her husband Kevin. She lives in her childhood home with her parents, “Papa” and “Nana”. Miss Kelley LOVES her Dunkin’ coffee, singing, and being by the water!

Birthdays Birthdays

Happiest of birthdays to Ms. Chris G, Miss Traci, and Miss Maria! Our students celebrating their birthdays this week include Smisha S, Greyson K, and Korlos S! Happy birthday to all!

Outside Play! Outside Play!

It is that time of year where it can be 38 degrees in the morning then gets up to the high 60's in the afternoon. Our recess times are throughout the day so please make sure you bring layers for your child. Our playground is in the shade for part of the day so it is not as warm as one thinks. Coats are needed at this point. Staff will make sure that the coats go home every day.

We recently learned that if you pressed no to notifications when you first downloaded the APS application that you will not receive our notifications. Apptegy recommends that you delete the app, redownload it and make sure that notifications are allowed the first time you are prompted.
