Character Strong Survey
After spring break, Roslyn will be using a quick google survey to gather student perception information on implementation of Character Strong and the “soft start” model. The information will be used to measure effectiveness this year and plan for next year. “Soft Start” refers to the model we have implemented to co-teach the first half hour of the school day with two staff members in each classroom. This time has been used in part for the Character Strong curriculum and in part for reteaching and practice of academic skills, and ensuring all students get off to a good start to their school day. This survey tool is internal to Roslyn’s school improvement plan. Should you prefer for your child(ren) not to participate in the survey please contact Mr. Kirk or your child’s teacher by April 2.
IAR Snacks for Students in Grades 3-5
IAR testing is just around the corner! We would LOVE to support our 3-5 grade students again this year with some yummy treats to eat while they work. If you would like to purchase a snack for our students, please click this link to our Amazon wishlist. We appreciate your support!
Home Internet Spring Break Reminder
As we approach Spring Break, we want to remind you about the importance of responsible tech use and home internet security for your students. As students take their district-issued iPads home for extended breaks, it's important to note that the school district does not monitor or filter devices at home. When students use their devices at home, whatever filters the family has established through their home internet provider take over. If a family has not established home internet filters, the student can access inappropriate content on their device while at home.
Parents can also use the iPad's Screen Time feature to restrict inappropriate content. Information about this can be found on the One to World Information page.
For additional information, please click here.
On Time Reminder
As the weather improves in our region, now is a good time to remind everyone of our school goal of promptness. School begins at 8 AM. We have defined this within our learning community as students being in their classrooms with instruction started. Supervision is provided on the playground for morning play beginning at 7:40 AM. We aim to come into the building around 7:52 AM (dependent on weather conditions.) From a teacher’s perspective, it is important to have everyone with us to begin the school day. As we spring into March, I ask that we all recommit to this goal of timeliness. Thank you!
5 Essentials Impact Survey
Each year the state of Illinois elicits feedback from staff, parents, and students in 4th-5th grades on the quality of our school. This survey is called the 5Essentials survey.
The window for the parent component is now open and can be accessed through this link. Please take a few minutes between today and the end of the month to give your input on Roslyn Road. This is an important metric in our state school report card and your feedback is important to us.
The survey closes March 28.
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences
Spring parent-teacher conference will be held on Wednesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 20. Thursday, March 20th is an Early Release Day with dismissal at 11:15. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 21 and spring break begins Monday, March 24.
Traffic Line Safety at School
A reminder about courtesy and safety in the traffic line. We need to remember to drive with the utmost caution around our school. I am requesting that everyone re-commit to our shared desire for safety around our school:
Mind the speed limits in our parking lot and in the neighborhood.
Always give pedestrians the right of way and be cognizant of children around you.
It is helpful to school personnel if you place a sign with your child’s first and last names in your vehicle’s windshield. This keeps the line moving efficiently.
Please be courteous in the arrival and pick-up lines and pull all the way to the picnic area as directed by school personnel. DO NOT weave in/out of the line. If all drivers continue to pull up, the line will move quickly.
Load/unload quickly at arrival and dismissal so the process works efficiently while staying safe.
Lost & Found
Come and get all your missing winter wear! Wondering how it is possible you bought a million pairs of mittens this year, only 2 remain and they don't even match? They're probably waiting for you inside Roslyn! Lost and Found items will be lining the hallways of Roslyn from March 10 to March 20. After March 20, unclaimed items will be donated.

Snow Gear Reminder
Snow Gear Reminder: In order to play in the snow students must have protective gear: winter jacket, boots, SNOW PANTS (these can be any pullover pants that have some water resistance), hats and gloves. Recess is at the middle of the school day and we want our students dry and ready to learn when they come inside from winter fun! In addition, we go outside for recess until a “feel like temperature” of 0 degrees and below! A change of clothing to be stored in the cubby is always a good idea. Proper attire helps to keep you warm too!
Multicultural Night: Save the Date!
Our 2nd ever Multicultural Night will be held on Tuesday April 8th, 6-8PM! Make sure to check backpacks this week for a fun activity we’re asking all students to participate in! See letter HERE for more details!
