The Peotone Music Program News

The Music Program wishes everyone a restful and rejuvenating Thanksgiving! We are all so appreciative of being able to work with Peotone student throughout each and every school week! We would also like to thank administration in PHS, PJHS, PES, and PIC for their constant support of the music program. Without their help, none of what we did this year would be possible!

Personally I would additionally like to shout out Ms. Marshall, Mr. Stefans, and Mr. Deweese for their hard work, wisdom, and overall insightful conversations. They are the backbone of the music program here at Peotone and I'm excited to see what they do in the future!

The Peotone Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, November 30 is at the corner of North and Second Street. All choir members are invited to be part of this event by leading Christmas carols at 5:15 pm. Festivities begin at 4:30. There will be free hot chocolate, s'mores, treats from Cornerstone Coffee and Arch's Sweet Treats. Ms. Marshall will arrive at 5:00 pm to hand out caroling packets to any Peotone choir student who attends; and we will start singing carols at 5:15 pm. We will end with Silent Night at 5:30 pm while the tree is being lit! (bring a small flashlight or use a cell phone to help you see the words in your caroling packet).

While the music program certainly loves Thanksgiving, we wanted to promote our next concert series in December, our Christmas Concerts!

We have one small change: All Christmas concerts will begin at 7 p.m.

December 12th: PHS Choir and Band Concert will be playing some Christmas classics!

Please fill out the conflict form (listed below) 2 weeks before the concert if you believe you may not be able to make it. Concerts are considered grades for both the choir and band.

Sectionals have been going great! Students have really been making huge improvements for their Christmas Concert during that time. Above is the schedule for when we come back from break.

The classroom teacher has permission to tell the band student that they can not attend sectionals if a quiz or test would be missed or difficult to make up or if the student is doing poorly (need to have higher than a C+ or a 79 %) in the class. If there is any other reason for staying in class, please let Mr. Kowalski know so we can work something out.

A reminder that band calendar dates have been sent home and are posted below if you need a copy.

Anything with TBD means you will receive and update on that information as soon as I have it available.

In order to make sure that both band and choir performances run smoothly, we are asking families to fill out a conflict form (the button below) if a student is not able to be there. This is to be filled out at least 2 weeks in advance before the date of conflict. This form will be posted on the newsletter and shortly is available on both band and choir student's Google Classroom pages.

Performances are grades and the expectation is for you to be there. If you are unable to go to an event, there will be a makeup assignment that will need to be completed. Usually situations of work or family events do not qualify as reasons for not going. Once completing the form, please alert Mr. Kowalski or Ms. Marshall about the submission so we can review it.
