Principal's Letter Principal's Letter

Dear Greenbriar Families,

Happy February! As we move through the heart of winter and the second half of our school year, I want to take a moment to share a few important reminders and celebrations with you.

Coats, Book Bags, and Locker Space
With the colder weather, students are bringing heavier coats to school, which makes locker space tighter than usual. We are reminding students to store coats and book bags in their lockers throughout the day to keep hallways and classrooms safe and organized. You can help by encouraging your child to clean out their book bag at home on a regular basis. Removing old papers, returned assignments, and unnecessary items can make a big difference in helping everything fit properly in their locker. A quick weekly clean-out can prevent a lot of daily frustration!

Behavior Expectations & End-of-Year Privileges
As we look ahead to spring, we are also looking forward to end-of-year privileged activities and celebrations. These special events are designed to recognize students who consistently demonstrate positive behavior, responsibility, and respect for others. We want every student to be able to participate. Please take a moment to talk with your child about making good choices each day—both academically and behaviorally. The habits they build now will carry them through the rest of the year and beyond.

Middle school is a time of growth, and we are proud of the progress our students continue to make. With your partnership, we can ensure that our school remains a safe, positive, and encouraging environment for everyone.

A New PTA – Exciting Times Ahead!
We are thrilled to share that our new PTA is up and running! Their leadership and enthusiasm are already bringing fresh ideas and renewed energy to our school community. The PTA plays an important role in supporting both teachers and students, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead—from special events to creative initiatives that enhance the middle school experience. We encourage families to stay connected and consider getting involved. Great things happen when we work together!

Finally, as we celebrate this month of kindness and friendship, I want to wish all of our families a very Happy Valentine’s Day. May it be filled with appreciation, compassion, and a reminder of how much we value the partnership we share with you.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school.

Jill Schissler

Dental Program 7th & 8th Grades Dental Program 7th & 8th Grades

Parma City School District is excited to announce a new partnership with Ohio Dental Outreach to bring free and low-cost preventive dental services directly to our school for students in grades 7–8. With parent consent, students can receive exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and x-rays — and, for those who qualify, even restorative services such as fillings and simple extractions.

Licensed dental professionals will provide services on-site at Greenbriar on Friday, February 27th.

You can sign up in one of two ways:

  1. A paper permission form was sent home in December. We have learned that sometimes forms don't always make it home, so a second round of form distribution will happen the week of February 9th. Please complete the form and return to the Homeroom Teacher by Monday, February 23rd.

  2. OR Sign up online at www.myschooldentist.com → Enter your school’s zip code to find your school and complete the form.

This is a convenient way to keep your child’s smile healthy — without having to miss school!

STEM 5 Designs Spacesuits!

Learners worked together in teams to protect astronauts from the dangerous vacuum environment called space. Who was the astronaut? A marshmallow, of course!

Learned how to use many layers to equalize pressure and keep their marshmallow astronauts from shriveling up.

House 8X House 8X

It is February and love is in the air here in House 8X. We have quite a few students that seem to love learning. Some students who have been showing such love are the following incredible students of the month.

Kellen Dorn-Mr. Vandervort

Kylie Liegl - Mr. Jaegers

Carly Stotts- Ms. Mangan

Syed-Mrs. Layhew

Abigail Mccully-Mrs. Vangalio

George Pearson- Mrs. Porco

Simra Syed is our superstar of the month!

The students and I are coming to the end of our novel Night by Elie Wiesel. Invariably, it is always a book the students find fascinating and informative. I have been impressed with their questions, comments, and insight throughout the last few weeks. We have been extremely busy reading, writing, and discussing. Soon students will be writing an essay based on the book and taking our final exam.

The Pythagorean Theorem is the focus in our math classes. This formula is used to measure triangles and other shapes.

In science, students are learning all about cells and their function/ make-up.

In social studies, students are completing a project on The Federalist Era and The Jefferson Era.
